JennysUncle Posted January 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2017 On one of the sea days on the latest Veendam cruise 2nd Officer Simon Butters gave a presentation in the Showroom titled a Virtual Bridge Tour. It was great. He is enthusiastic and funny - if you see this in your daily guide, definitely go. It wasn't so much a walk through the actual Bridge as an overview of the ship's operation. Covered the various departments and ranks, had pictures and data on the ship, showed their navigation charts and weather feeds, etc. Things they worry about - e.g. loading and trim (picture of a container ship rolled over) -- weather (picture of a wave over the Veendam bridge) and so forth. HAL should tape it.
jtl513 Posted January 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Sounds great! I'll watch for it on future cruises. :)
freestyling Posted January 24, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Sounds very interesting. I love the ship tours as well but will ask about this on my cruise in April. Thanks for pointing it out!

just_cruising_along Posted January 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We had the virtual tour on the Eurodam last week. The captain was very interesting and had a great sense of humor. There was at least 30 minutes of questions and answers afterwards. If you are interested in the inner workings of the ship, this talk is highly recommended. iflyrc5 Posted January 24, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We have had these on several of our recent cruises. Last one on the Maasdam was by the Chief Engineer. He had come out of retirement to be on that cruise and did an outstanding job.
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted January 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2017 We had that also as our consulation prize when we missed P. Montt. It included some pictures from dry dock so you could see the stabilizer and below the normal waterline
