beds apart on gem balcony

My wife sleeps very quietly, hardly turns and I am a restless sleeper only covered from under my arms to my knees ending up with the covers bunched up.

We are on the Gem end of March in a balcony and have all our docking documents printed but were never given the choice anywhere to state that we wanted separate beds because in a queen with one cover sleeping will be a disaster. Asking the cabin attendant seems late and it even looks as if there is no room to separate the beds...Any insight?

So you have arrived checked in and have boarded the ship and opening the door

to your cabin and voila the beds are not separated !

PAUSE mutter oath under breath - look around for your cabin attendant !

If not present look around for a desk with some welcoming paper work !

See if the cabin steward has left a card with his (her) name and a phone

number - pick-up the phone talk or leave a voice message about getting the

beds separated. Now this won't be done before your Houdini magic eyes but

it will be done no later than turn-down time around or between 8-9 pm when

the cabin attendant does the turn down and final clean up of your cabin area.

If you do need to have it done right away - crash and snooze - look out your

cabin door for any attendant in the passageway and call him. The change over

takes less than 5 minutes. Simple to do remove bedding split beds and bed

table to the middle and refit with twin bedding - smile - now that was easy !

Note when your reservation states Mr. & Mrs. the bedding is set up together.

If the married names are different a different result may occur but certainly

no problem to fix! In suites the King bed cannot be split !

I agree with the above. Wait until you are onboard and get your room steward to fix it.

You could call and request it, but in my experience that doesn't necessarily work.

When I did a one night cruise sailing with my brother, I asked our PCC to ensure that the reservation said that we wanted the beds separated. I assume the room steward just checked the names, saw they were the same and put them together. It took a few seconds onboard to get it fixed.

You can also consider trying the German approach to sharing a bed: double bed, but each person has his/her own single comforter (duvet). No top sheet.

There is an option to add your preferred bed configuration to your booking, but you have to call NCL to request this, because it's not accessible on the website. Even then the beds may be set up the wrong way when you arrive, or you might just change your mind once you actually see the room. Talk to your steward.

>>>You can also consider trying the German approach to sharing a bed: double bed, but each person has his/her own single comforter (duvet). No top sheet<<<

Being German, this is how I share our king size bed at home, that way my better half is not bothered by my nightly antics...

We too a 9 day from NYC on the Gem two years ago, we had an inside and got the beds separated, but a Balcony has a different configuration....sooo, I am not the slightest disturbed about that, though of the 17 cruises we have taken there seemed to always be a question about bedding and I wondered if I missed it somehow, so no problem, thanks cverybody...
