landlady1952 Posted February 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Good morning. I have a dilemma and hope someone might know the answer or have some advice. We are booked on the GEM in March thru CAS. I recently had hip surgery and although I think I will be fine to go, I do think I would be better off in a handicapped room. We are currently booked in a balcony room. Do you think it possible for me to call CAS and tell them I need a handicapped room? Although there aren't any currently available on site, will they move someone out of a handicapped room for me? Of course only looking to move someone who really doesn't need one. I know sometimes people book rooms and cannthen be moved if necessary. Any thoughts or advice? TIA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MaryZ Posted February 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2017 You can call and ask if they can see any accessible cabins available that are not showing up for you to see. But as far as them moving someone, I suppose it is possible if they just assigned a guarantee cabin. It can never hurt to ask. That's the only way you'll know for sure. Hope you heal quickly! kayhil3 Posted February 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2017 I also booked through CAS for a march 9th cruise on the gem getting a balcony, asked about a handicap room for my mom and was told they were sold out and unfortunately there was no way to get one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk When I was in the process of booking for a March sailing on the Breakaway, I was offered a handicap Aft Facing cabin, for the same price as Guaranteed Balcony. It was under the stipulations that IF someone really needed the handicap cabin, I would be moved. So, call and ask.
Hopes4 Posted February 5, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2017 I had friends that wanted to join us on the Gem's March 9th cruise and it is completely sold out. I hope that isn't the one you need. Good Luck!
easyboy Posted February 6, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2017 No harm in trying by calling them.
don't-use-real-name Posted February 6, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2017 CALL ! While NCL will not go overboard to bump some able bodied person out of a HC cabin they can make it interesting by offering a complimentary upgrade making this a winner for both. CALL - give NCL an opportunity to make it happen !
cb at sea Posted February 6, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2017 Unless you need a wheelchair, you really won't need a true HC cabin. The lip on the shower is only a couple inches...so that's not too bad to step over.
nat9511 Posted February 6, 2017 #10 Share Posted February 6, 2017 I have a hip and two knee replacements and have never needed a handicap cabin.
