The Sewcialist Posted February 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Maybe it's a geeky thing to do, but I'm the crafty type and like to make my own decorations! Is decorating the door allowed? If so, are there guidelines on what you are allowed to use for decorating? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
A&Jfamily Posted February 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2017 You can check the FAQ on the website but I can sum up the officially policy in that all decorations must be flame retardant. They have the right to remove anything. While I did not see it enforced in December, just be aware that they very well could... The Sewcialist Posted February 7, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Well maybe I'll skip going through the trouble of making my own decorations. I don't think I have any flame retardant paper! Sent from my SM-T320 using Forums mobile app
watermelonqueen99 Posted February 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2017 We see door decorations on every cruise. In fact, in most of my social media cruise groups, there have been door decorating contests.
Yazoo cruiser Posted February 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2017 We cruise a lot and have found it depends on ship. We have a friend that travels with us and loves decorating her door. On the Triumph last year, it was allowed. On the Dream in December they made her take it down because it was not fire retardant. Same thing on the Elation last September they made her take it down. Good luck and hope you have a great cruise.
sandij Posted February 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2017 I like to decorate, didn't do it last cruise for some reason but a cabin near us had three balloons hanging and everyone near loved them cause they knew they were near their cabin. We were aft and it was a relief to see those balloons and know you were almost to your room.

meester_jamie Posted February 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2017 You should see some of the artwork we've seen on our past cruises. It was like Hobby Lobby threw up on the door. :) Ha! that is funny! LOL Just back from Magic.. and there were lots of doors decorated.. we had a simple 8.5 x 11 bristol board picture on the door.. with "stik tac putty" holding it on.. which is easily removed without residue that tape might leave also.. there was a hanger on the mail box beside the door.. a thread holding a music note, then a carnival funnel , and a picture of us... some folks down the corridor had the entire door covered in characters ... I would think the "ninjas" who sneak in and make the beds might find that a bit awkward... as most people slide their body / bum / shoulder along the door to hold it open while getting in the cabin... I would suggest it is above shoulder height which worked great for us! :) Have Fun with your door! :D
ckmommy Posted February 7, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Just off Valor today-- Tons of door decorations. None fire retardant--unless paper bags, plastic Super Bowl table cloths, bulletin board paper has become fire proof?? Loved looking at them all! The Sewcialist Posted February 7, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted February 7, 2017 How can they spot fire-retardant vs. Non-fire retardant decorations? I may just whip up some easy things to put up and see what happens. Are doors magnetic too? Sent from my SM-T320 using Forums mobile app

Anyislandwilldo Posted February 7, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 7, 2017 I've been trying to find a way to decorate under the new guidelines. Went to Walmart and found two 5 x 8 magnet sheets with adhesive on one side. Printed off some pictures and pasted them to one side. Hopefully they won't be removed on our Alaskan Cruise in May. Anthomaniac Posted February 7, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Last time we cruised I made a small wreath with flip flops and a metal wreath form. Used stick on letters on the flip flops. Worked perfectly! Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
springs741 Posted February 7, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Teacher supply stores will be your best source of fire retardant items. Carnival has had rules/guidelines for door decorating for years. The recently (Oct/Nov 2016) released updated rules state the decorations from the fun shop comply with the fire resistant guideline. Enforcement of the rules varies widely from ship to ship. The following is my personal opinion: Carnival will eventually ban door decorations stating that passengers were not able to comply with the rules. This non compliance was a passenger safety violation and cause excessive damage ships. I hope I am wrong. I enjoy seeing the different doors. PlanoDebbie Posted February 7, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 7, 2017 I thought i read somewhere that all door decorations must be on a magnet only. Apparently a lot of people were using packing tape or duct tape to put decorations on their door. By the end of the week, it would leave some sticky residue or even pull off some chunks of paint. Apparently the cruise lines are a bit tired of the doors having to be re-painted often, or looking like a Motel 6 with all the nasty tape markings on it. I like to have something on my door, just to identify it a bit easier when walking down a long hallway with 100 other cabins and not wanting to insert my card into the wrong door. I will make sure that whatever I bring will be attached to a magnet that will not damage the door.
tea4ular Posted February 8, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 8, 2017 We will be sailing on Earth Day this year. Our door decorations will pay homage to the earth. We love not only decorating our door, but seeing the creativity on others as well.
