They stopped serving Lobster on 5 Night and Shorter Cruises in October of 2016.

Regarding the Fantasy,

I absolutely love the ship. It has 2.0 upgrades with Guy's Burger Joint, Blue Iguana Cantina, Red Frog Rum Bar, and Blue Iguana Cantina Bar. It will get the Alchemy Bar and Cherry On Top when it has its next dry dock(which isn't Currently Scheduled. Too Early. Overall, I love the Fantasy. It's very classy and not Gaudy like most Carnival Ships

It was before October 2016. We didn't have lobster on the Fantasy in May 2016.

We sailed not long after her dry dock, and she is in absolutely amazing shape for being almost 30 years old. The updates were a welcome addition. The fantasy class is still in my favorites, and I like it even more than the Conquest class. Check out the serenity deck. The serenity deck on the fantasy class are my favorites in the fleet.

I agree about serenity. I love it being in the back of the ship. We went on the magic in August and serenity is in the front. We tried on 2 different days to go and it was so windy we could not relax. Spent most of our time at the aft pool.

I just got back from a cruise on the Carnival Fantasy from 2 - 6 March 17. I can give you my review in my opinion, but keep in mind, everyone has a different opinion about their own personal cruise experiences.

To answer the poster's question about lobster, yes, it was available with steak on the second night aboard only, which was the formal night. There was no extra charge for it, however, I do not eat lobster, so I can't comment on what it tasted like.

As far as the rest of the ship and my cruise, here goes:

1. Entertainment was lacking throughout the day until after dinner. There was very little to do during the day other than play trivia contests held at mid-deck of the Promenade Deck. I'll talk about this for a few minutes. The trivia is held in an extremely bad location. Across from where the trivia is held, there is a bar that has a blender to make frozen drinks. Anytime the blender was used, it drowned out the "Fun Squad" host's voice. There were people sitting at the bar shouting out the answers to the questions even though they were asked not to. To make matters worse, the portable rechargeable battery powered speaker and wireless microphone they used kept going out. The speaker and mic have a built in receiver, and had very little range. The host could get no further away than 2' away from the speaker. They practically had to stand in front of it, which caused a high squeeled feedback that will kill your ears. But the worst thing is that the area Promenade where the trivia is held is in a smoking area right near the casino. I am a non-smoker and I got choked out. I can't stand the smell of nasty second-hand smoke. That is the nastiest habit in the world!! After the cruise, I called Carnival and let them know my displeasure of the lack of entertainment and gave them suggestions where to move the trivia contests. Cat's Lounge, Discoteque, Majestic Bar, and the meeting room in back of the Majestic Bar were open and in a non-smoking area. All of those rooms have a built in P.A. system, so it would be much better to hold the trivia in a larger, non-smoking room dedicated to trivia without choking on smoke, no noise, and no distractions from rowdy cruisers.

Further, the "Fun Squad" members are not all trained to do trivia. One trivia contest was actually Scattergories. The Fun Squad host had never done Scattergories before, and he had no idea how it was run. One Fun Squad member had such a thick accent, I couldn't understand a word he said. I let Carnival know that all of these Fun Squad members need to have training on anything they do before hosting an event.

2. I addressed the lack of entertainment during the day. I noticed Karaoke was usually only held from 8-10 or 8-11 nightly. It is held in the Cat's Lounge. I went every night, and that lounge was packed with singers. I told Carnival that Karaoke is not just a night time event. I told them that people will sing during the day and that it will bring in more bar revenue. People love to sing no matter what time of the day it is.

Also, the dance club was only open at night. They could have easily opened it up and people would fill the room very easily, especially on days when it's too cold and windy to sit outside on the Lido Deck.

I also made the suggestion of showing movies, and I gave them various locations where there was a projection screen and sound system. They could very easily show first run movies, have popcorn available, and cruisers would fill the room.

3. The Entertainment Director was Cassie. She's from England and very energetic, however, a little over the top. I do not like when women scream, and it's even worse when a woman screams into a microphone. There's a difference between generating excitement with speaking enthusiastically, and screaming. She just has to learn that.

4. The Buffet. Stay away from it. I never found anything good to eat on the buffet. They change the theme daily, but there were too few main dish choices. I opted for other choices, which I'll touch on.

5. Table Service Dining. A++++++. I can't say enough about the food and waitstaff!!! Our lead server, George, was spot on. He was energetic and very friendly!! He and his staff took very good care of us! We liked him so much, we requested to be in his section every meal!! Now, on to the food. Many, many choices to choose from, and extremely delicious!! This is where we ate breakfast, brunch, and dinner everyday!!

6. Guy's Burgers. I wasn't the least bit impressed. It was a well done hamburger with a lot of hype. The fries were well done. I ate there for lunch one day. Blah!!

7. The Cantina. They will make a burrito with whatever you choose. I ate there for lunch another day. It was spot on!! Definitely worth eating!!!

8. Pizza. Available 24 hours a day. I ate pizza for lunch another day. It's a thin crusted pizza, crispy, and full of deliciousness!!

9. The pool and hot tubs on the Lido Deck. We never had a chance to go in the pool. Some kid pooped in the pool and left floaters the very first day, so they had to drain and clean the pool. On the second and third day, two different adults barfed and left chunks in the pool, so they had to drain it and clean it. They never refilled it again. The two hot tubs near the pool were filled up with kids. Not a chance to even get in there.

10. A well kept secret for adults is the "Adult 21 and Over" area, which has two hot tubs and no music. They call it Serenity, and that is exactly what it is. It is located off the Promenade Deck and the Aft of the ship. We spent a few hours, two glorious days in a row. No music, no kids, and nothing but peace and quiet!!

11. Excursions. I went on the cruise with my neighbor, as both of our wives had to work. He got a bad case of the gout and couldn't make it off the ship. We didn't book excursions, as most were water based, and I'm not going in any water where anything lives. I ended up renting a small car and drove around the island. We had already been to Cozumel previously, and had already seen the Mayan Ruins, Tequila Tour, Lighthouse, and a few other things, so there was very little else I haven't done...land based.

12. Shopping on Cozumel. They will lure you into their shops. I am not a shopper, so I stayed out of all of those shops there. I did buy some 100% blue agava tequila inside the duty free shops, 2 750 ml bottles for $23. I also bought two bottles of Kahlua for $20. I didn't have to pay any tax when I went through customs.

13. Overall experience. I give the Carnival Fantasy a 4 star review. Had it not been for the lack of entertainment, I would have given it a 5 star review.

Thank you for taking the time to share all of this with us. We board on May 11. I am thrilled to hear you had great dinning room serve. We also enjoy dinner. What was your favorite item? Also, how was the parking in Mobile?

Thanks, Bobbi

That's disgusting about the floaters in the pool. I don't understand why people with small kids allow them to get in the pool. How was the waterworks area? Did y'all ever go back in that area? That's normally where we stay with our 9 year old.

I are mostly vegetarian, as I only eat meat twice a week. I loved the brunch with Filet Mignon and eggs. For dinner, I had vegetarian eggplant parmasan, which was delicious. I also had vegetarian lasagna bolognase, which was fantastic and quite filling!

We looked at the water slide area on the first day just to see where it was. It wasn't open, as we hit wind gusts of over 35 mph and rough seas on the way to Cozumel on Day 1 and our fun day at sea. It opened once we ported in Cozumel, but closed a short time later. We hit wind gusts of 55 mph and rough seas all the way back to Mobile.

I think I may have answered this on a different post, but I ate mostly vegetarian meals during the My Time Dining. The first night, I had vegetarian lasagna bolognase. It was a huge portion and I couldn't finish it all. The second night I had eggplant parmasan. Again, a huge portion and full of flavor. I'm trying to remember what I had on the third and fourth nights, but only one of those dinner meals was a meat entree. I did have filet mignon and eggs during brunch on day 2.

I'm not sure if the main dining room was open for lunch on debarktation day. They pretty much directed everyone to the Lido Deck where the buffet was along with Guy's Burgers and the Cantina where you can tell them what you want inside your burrito. Just a word of advice. The buffet was not all that great, and neither was Guy's Burgers. I ate at each of them only once during the cruise, and that was enough for me. I wasn't impressed with either, but the burritos were full of flavor and delicious!!

About the traffic and parking garage. We were the earliest to embark between 11:30-12:30. Traffic was backed up to the exit off of I-10. It was a mess!! The line into the parking garage took well over 45 minutes. It is very confusing and not well directed with the locations of dropping off your luggage. Be prepared to give a tip to the porter who takes your bags out of your car, puts them on a four wheeled cart, and brings them inside for you. My suggestion is to make sure your luggage is on wheels, find your parking spot, and wheel your own luggage inside. The drop off area is both on the left and right sides of the parking garage. People are in a hurry to park and couldn't give a rat's ass about courtesy to let you drive away. I will not be doing drop off luggage the next time!

Just a few comments about the shows at night. They have a live version of Hasbro Games on the first night and the third night when we ported. It was a lot of fun with audience participation. Both the Motown and British Invasion shows were superb, but only lasted 30 minutes each. They didn't actually do props and dancing for the British Invasion show, as we had very rough seas and high winds of 55 mph. The ship was doing a good bit of bouncing. The singers sat on stools and performed, and at that, they were still being jostled around. I had to give them a lot of credit for just singing on a very rocky ship!! They also had a comedian who performed "PG" and an "R" rated shows. The 7:30 show was the "PG" show, but there was no way I'm staying up until 11 pm to watch an "R" rated show. That was way too late for me.

Would you suggest parking at the port or maybe using a hotel shuttle service? Would that help with the delay or would it be the same do you think?

I wish I could answer that for you. I live in Pensacola, about an hour away, so I drive to Mobile.

We are driving, also. No hotels needed. Where did you park? Any advice?

Bobbi

I parked in the parking garage at the port. But, as I said, if you can avoid unloading your luggage downstairs, avoid it at all cost. Go straight up the ramp and find a parking space and wheel the luggage yourself. You'll avoid the left and right sides where luggage is unloaded and avoid having to tip a porter to bring your luggage inside. I also pre-paid for my parking ahead of time, so that sped the parking process up a bit.

Just a few more FYI bit of information.

1. There's a library with books and board games. I saw Yahtzee, Connect Four, and a few other games in there. There were a few decks of cards, but they were missing cards. If you play cards, you're better off bringing your own.

2. Bring a book, crossword puzzle book, Soduku, or a Word Find book. You'll have some down time with the lack of entertainment in the morning. I was up before the sun everyday. I went to the Lido Deck and grabbed a cup of coffee and did word find puzzles for a few hours.

3. Unless you pay for a WiFi package on board, there is no internet nor cell service at sea. I went cold turkey. It was nice and peaceful w/o a phone nor the internet.

4. If you're looking to save money, stay away from Bingo, the casino, the bar, buying alcoholic drinks, and anything they're trying to upsell you on. They do have a wristwatch sale, jewelry sale, alcohol sale, art sale, and more. Also, you'll be asked numerous times by photographers on board for photo opportunities. I simply said "No thank you".

5. You are allowed to bring a 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne. To avoid an uncorking fee, bring a bottle that has a screw off top.

Comfort and hygiene:

I carried a small roll of Charmin toilet paper in a small side waist pack along with a bottle of hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, a Shout Stain Remover pack, Clorox Wipes, and a small pack of Kleenex. I sanitized my hands after I touched anything on the ship. You really need to sanitize your hands after touching the menu in the restaurant. You never know who touched what and where.

Bring two pairs of shoes and alternate them daily. Your feet will appreciate it. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, so you'll need comfortable shoes.

Make sure you bring and use sunscreen. I used a CVS brand equivalent to Coppertone Sport 50 SPF. I'm a dark skin Italian, but I made sure I had plenty of sunscreen on every few hours.

Wear a hat with a brim all the way around to avoid sunburn on your ears and neck.

Bring a lot of patience. You'll be standing in lines in the port, getting on board, waiting on an elevator, and just about anything else you can think of.

Did you know you can rent an electric scooter right from Carnival's website if you are physically impaired?

Hope this helps a bit for some first time cruisers.

To each his own. We were there early...we are platinum and boarded at 11:30. We unloaded our luggage, parked, checked in, and waited just a bit til they boarded.

The ship was great. It's not their fault if careless people let their kids crap in the pool. The singers on board were amongst the best I've seen on any Carnival ship...ever. With the exception of the country-singing guy who was fine, but sang the same songs over and over.

OP...enjoy your cruise.

The corkage fee has nothing to do with whether your bottle has a cork or is a screw off.

Oh, I did enjoy my cruise. I agree, there's no fault on Carnival's part for the kid crapping in the pool and the two adults who barfed in it. I was just pointing out that it was closed and we didn't have a chance to go in it.

I also agree about the country dude singing the same songs over and over. Unfortunately, guitar players can only learn to play and sing so many songs, so there are going to be repeats.

The duo group, "Take Two", were extremely good! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them sing. I happen to walk down the staircase while they were playing. He's actually playing the keyboard to Karaoke tracks. The words were scrolling on his laptop screen and changing color as he sang along. They were both very good. He could sing Journey songs out of this world!

I didn't care too much for the country duo. The guitar playing guy is from the UK and she's from the US somewhere. He played the songs too slow of a tempo.

I'm looking forward to my next cruise, but not to Cozumel. Been there, done that.
