Shoompea, sorry about the loss of your glasses. But don't you think it is time to move on and enjoy your cruise with your family?

I think it's time...that there is some information on how people can participate. How can we donate to this worthy cause?

I always donate my old prescription glasses to our local Lions Club. They have some sort of program where they distribute them to those that are in need. I like keeping my donations close to home, helping my friends and neighbors.

Well the problem with that is the ONLY time bags are searched is in the naughty room in the presence of the guest. You wouldn't need a camera since the guest would be an eyewitness.

This is Most definitely not the ONLY time the bags are searched! On our last Escape cruise my husband had something that raised suspicion as there was a tag from NCL inside his bag when it was delivered to our cabin. As we didn't keep the note I can't quote it exactly but it stated that their scan showed something that caused them to want to look further. Once we opened the bag we saw the ziplock bag that my husband packed with his leatherman tool, a compass and a mini flashlight on the top center of his belongings. We are assuming this was what flagged their concern but not positive. We were not offended but nothing was missing. I'm all for secondary screening as needed.

And Mr Saeshark before you try to shoot holes in my story, we did not fly so the airlines were not responsible. We were in possession of our bag from the time it left our vehicle. We did not save the notice so again can't confirm exactly where the search was performed but we were not there to witness it.

That screening is all done via xray. If a dangerous item is suspected the CBP will escort the guest off of the ship to be present for the inspection.
That can happen, but they can also just open the bag with you not there. Lots of things look suspicious on x-ray. They would be calling people off the ship all day long on embarkation day, and we would hear about it all the time on here.

Actually a good number of our donations did come from a local Lion's Club and donating to them is an excellent idea. But just so you know, their donations rarely ever stay local and they do go to various optometry schools who take them in missions to places like Honduras and Mexico. That being said donating them is always an excellent idea and helpful to those who can't afford them.

When I started this post, my intent was to find out what our next step would be in trying to recover our stolen (yes, I did use the word stolen) eyeglass donations so that we could have them go to where they were intended. Many of you have been very informative and helpful with your comments and per your advice we will be contacting NCL when we get back home, seeing as we are getting nowhere with our inquiries on board. Thank you for the kind words as well. Even though at times they seemed to get drowned out by some of the negative comments, we really do appreciate them. Someone so kindly asked where they can donate to such a worthy cause. Our response to that would be to donate to whatever cause touches your heart. In today's day and age there are sadly more people in need than ever before, especially those closer to home and in our own communities. As for the poster who chose to take up a war on semantics as to whether the eyeglasses were 'stolen' or 'missing,' we suggest you try using your time more constructively. As most seasoned CCers know, very few posts from a person who's account only started several days ago is probably a troll. And I for one should have used better judgement and not fed the troll. Cruise Critic is filled with a wonderful group of people who love cruising and generally want to learn more about their upcoming cruise or help fellow cruisers. Hopefully my post has not gotten in the way of that. Have a great day everyone, this is me signing out.
