Most ports, unless they're in a big city like Seattle, only have 1 pier. In places like St. Thomas you may or may not dock at the pier the ship normally goes to, depending on how many ships are in port. If you dock away from the main activity center, there is transportation available to get you where you need to be.

It would help if you would indicate your itinerary and some of the ports you're concerned about.

Go to http://www.cruiseportinsider.com and choose each of your ports, and scroll down to the bottom where they have the cruise ship schedule. If there are different areas, it will tell you which docking area. Of course, theschedule for 2018 will not be there for months, but you can get an idea by the ships of NCL this year. In Cozumel, I think NCL docks downtown at Punta Langosta. EM

Many ports have websites with a cruise calendar. I always google each port we're going to and have found that some of these calendars will list the berth each ship will be at. Often guide books will have maps that show where a port's pier is (google maps is good for this, too).
