Vista cabin choice...

We are sailing on the Vista April 8th and

are thinking about upgrading our interior porthole cabin on deck 1 to a balcony cabin. Looks like the balcony cabin would be on deck 2. The cost is a ton but we have never experienced a balcony and it will be our honeymoon. #yolo?

Any pros/cons of a low balcony?

I am also considering this as I have been reading about people saying that the location of porthole cabins tend to be bad for motion. Our current cabin is 1209.

Any suggestions ?

Porthole cabins are more motion prone as they are as far forward as you can get. Balcony's are a nice feature to have, but if it costs a ton more you need to think about how much you'd actually use it. Personally I usually end up in a balcony cabin via casino promotions, and the only time I'm out there is on the first day. Besides that I'm usually around the pools/bars. So if you prefer to spend time privately in your cabin, away from the crowds then the extra price of the balcony would be worth it since you have your own reserved outdoor space. But if you prefer to be out and about all day then save the money and keep the porthole, or if you're worried about motion move to another interior or ocean view room that is mid ship.

We've stayed in a cove balcony and loved it. You are very close to the water, and I loved to just relax and watch the waves. (I was hoping we would see some dolphins, but we didn't... boo) Also, the balcony is "enclosed" (obviously... since it's called a "cove"). That is very nice if the weather is not good. If you have high winds or rain, you should still be able to sit out there (depending on the direction it's blowing). Some people may think this is a negative because you don't get much direct sunlight, but there are plenty of other areas on the boat for that.

If it makes financial sense, I wouldn't think twice about it.... Those are my two cents!

Balconies on the Vista are way pricey when going from an inside. Normally I get a balcony but it was $1100 more than our Cloud 9 Spa inside on our upcoming Vista cruise. Not worth it in my opinion this time. Also, I would not want my first balcony to be a deck one like you're considering. Too much noise from the galley above and way way to much walking and elevator use to get anywhere else on the ship from the bottom. I'd wait until another cruise to get a mid to upper level balcony as your first versus the basement. Why do you think it's one of the few balconies left?

I just spoke with my travel agent again. We would have to pay about 600$ EACH to upgrade and it would be Carnival's pick. For sure a balcony but it could be anywhere on the ship. She also said it could be an obstructed view...

I'm not sure why I was led to believe there weren't many left-the lady she spoke to now just told her she couldn't tell her how many were left !

For that price and to potentially get an obstructed view, I really need to sleep on it lol.

No way. That is insane especially for a guarantee. There's always the possibility you could get stuck under the galley or in a bad location. For $1200 that's almost a whole other cruise!

My thoughts exactly!

I would take that 1200 and use it to cover your gratuities (200), Cheers package (920) and a night 8 reservation in the steakhouse (70).

IIRC, we were on a port hole cabin during our honeymoon too in early 90's on a Norwegian boat. I don't believe we experienced motion sickness but it all depends on the person and weather/sea condition. I do agree that Vista balcony is very expensive vs inside;we have a balcony & an inside cabin across each other on deck 8 for the southern spring break and the difference is $654 per. IMO, being this late and slim picking on available cabins, save the $$$ and use it for the next trip; perhaps look into aft balcony cabin.
