Mosquitos in december

Looking to cruise in December and stopping in Roatan,

Reading about malaria and mosquitos is putting me off,

Hiw likely are we to be Bitten, around the port areas, we won't be going on jungle tours etc.

Malaria and Dengue are both in the mosquito population on the island. While there are zero guarantees in life if you are diligent about bug repellent chances are you will be fine.

Mosquitos feed mostly at dusk and dawn. Using spray during those times is most important. They don't hang out at the beach, they hang out in dark, damp areas like under tables or in the jungle. That ocean breeze is your friend, mosquitos hate wind. Just take precautions.

Oct-Dec is rainy season in Roatan-Belize-Central America, so there can be more bugs. Don't let that discourage you, just be prepared.

Roatan is a beautiful jungle island and well worth a visit.

We have been there in December twice, including last December. I haven't seen any mosquitoes, but it would be prudent to use protection. That said, we didn't!

We have ziplined there and gone to the monkey and sloth habitat as well as the beach. The zipline was in a treed area.
