Bruin Steve Posted March 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Looks as if the purpose is to further confuse the shuttle and limo drivers...like the one I had a few years ago who tried to drop me off for a Virgin Australia flight at the Virgin Atlantic Terminal (Virgin Australia is in the TBIT, Virgin Atlantic in T3). To anyone unfamiliar with LAX, you need to know that it is one of the 5 busiest airports in the world...and, unlike most other large airports, there is no tram or peoplemover system. The entire thing is condensed into one large squared-off horseshoe with T1, T2 and T3 on the north side and T4, T5, T6, T7 and T8 on the South side and the Tom Bradley Terminal capping the closed end...Two levels with several large parking structures filling the interior of the horseshoe. One way counter-clockwise road on each level with an inner multi-lane loop and an outer two-lane loop curbside...with a median between the two with shuttle and specialty bus stops...and with a few short-cut cut-across roads winding between the parking structures. Traffic can be miserable. And, you don't want to have to change flights in different terminals. Moving large airlines from one terminal to another will be a major nightmare. Each terminal has long extensions out to the side with a large number of gates. From the air, it looks like a giant cockroach.
SadieN Posted March 22, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted March 22, 2017 It will be a giant mess. They say there will be staff to tell you where to go but like anything else, it's finding the staff. If you're mobile its relatively easy to walk from one terminal to another. Most Angelenos have, at one time, crossed thru the center parking lots to get to the beginning of the shuttle routes. Also, as of January they were still working on the parking lots. Several entrances and elevators not working. ETA- thank you Bruce for the visual (cockroach). Av8tor Posted May 18, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2017 CAUTION, CAUTION, CAUTION!!!! This is a great diagram of the LAX general layout, but it's VERY old. Don't use this diagram for locating your airline, it may no longer be accurate. Note that Northwest is shown operating from T2 and they haven't even existed for years (merged with Delta). As of this month, Delta moved from T5 & T6 to T2 & T3. Not sure about any other airline locations but check with your airline to be sure, especially since you have to exit security and then re-enter if you must change terminals.
