Air deviation strategy.

DW and I are considering our first cruise with Oceania to the Caribbean, 7 day cruise on Sirena, early 2018. Thinking of a midship B1 balcony stateroom

We will be flying round trip from San Francisco to Miami, and want to fly into Miami a few days pre-cruise to see Miami, and to ensure we don't miss the cruise. :D

We cannot decide whether to take the Cruise+airfare , or Cruise+no air, option. There is also a "O Life Choice" package offered on this cruise as a perk. Either beverage, shore excursion, or shipboard credit. Very confusing how to choose. BTW, we don't drink alcohol.

If we do our own air, we would prefer a non-stop flight, San Francisco to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.

What is the best strategy do you recommend, or have used, to decide whether to take the airfare offered by Oceania or do own airfare?

How are the flights offered by Oceania? Pros and cons of your experience? What is meant by Air Deviation?

Thanks in advance. DW and I are really looking forward to our first cruise with Oceania. :)

Right now if you want N/S service to MIA you are taking either American or United; to FLL that means JetBlue or United. Since Virgin America is merging with Alaska their N/S routes will probably change. You may find it is cheaper to fly into FLL than MIA depending on the airline.

We are currently on the tarmac in Houston waiting for an open gate on our flight(s) from SFO to MIA. We pretty much always take the air credit so that (as we're doing today) we can fly in about 3 days before embarkation. We'll be headed back home from Athens (staying there post cruise). Taking the credit gives you far greater flexibility with choice of dates, airlines, etc. -almost ALWAYS worth any additional cost. This trip, between credit and cost, we get to fly home first class for about $500 (plus minimal points) each.

There are three options for buying Air for an Oceania Cruise:

1) Take the air Allowance as a reduction to the cost of your Cruise and make your own Arrangements The amount of the air allowance varies by cruise.

2) Opt to use the "included" Cruise Air, but do nothing else; Oceania will get you from A to B in plenty of Time at the least cost possible. You won't have any say in the arrangements.

3) Buy an Air Deviation from Oceania. This gives the Passenger input into their air arrangements (including the date(s) when you fly) for a fee of $175 per person. The fee is non-refundable but is not assessed until the passenger and Oceania come to a meeting of the minds regarding the route. Some flights may require an up-charge, but any additional costs are a part of the negotiation prices, so there are no surprises.

You can take the option that gives you oLife (promotion fare) and say no air. They will tell you how much they will take off for your air. We got three prices from our TA and this was the best price - the Promotional Fare but without the air.

It might make sense if flights from your home are pricey, or you are going very far afield. For us - into and out of Europe is usually well priced. And we save because we won't be paying the deviation fee - we plan to go early and stay on.

The answer is simple.... 1. take the air credit from SFO to MIA or FFL. it will be about $350.

2. save the $150 pp to spend on a deviation. 3. you can buy a rt air for about $300 to 380 pp on UAL... Or better yet, use your FF miles its between 24,000 aqnd 50,000 miles pp.

I am flying to MIA from LAX and PSP several days.... UAL had a super price for $890 for First class RT... Actualy, you need to know that it is a total rip off to use your FF miles or points on ANY domestic flight including Hawaii... Far better to save them for international business, and not pay a deviation and get $$$ air credit.... Thats what I would and have done and will always do in the US

UAL has a nonstop from SFO getting in at 5:30 MIA. daily Avoid American, Delta and South Worst

Take the CASH obc, iit will cover your $32 a day cabin grats. O tours over priced you can buy at 1/4 the price your self, You dont drink so cool... Very simple math
