Lack of wheelchair accessible excursions

I have mobility issues and must use a power chair to travel. I travel with a friend who also uses a power chair. I am very disappointed by the lack of wheelchair accessible excursions. We are currently booked on cruises to the Carribean, Bermuda, Transatlantic to Barcelona, 7-day Mediterranean, Panama Canal, and Mexican Riviera, and have found very few excursions. I feel there should at least be wheelchair accessible driving tours of all U.S. and foreign ports.

This was discussed recently somewhere around here. One challenge with mobility issues is that people tend to forget the US has the ADA which requires businesses and governments to accommodate those with mobility or other issues.

Once outside the US, the ADA no longer applies, unless the country has similar legislation. So, it's really not up to the cruise line to find something for wheelchair-bound travelers, because there may not be anything available. In much of the Caribbean, I would expect it difficult to find a wheelchair equipped bus or van.

My mother also uses a power chair. There are very few accessible excursions, but, after leaving the US, the ADA no longer applies. On our upcoming trip on the Escape, she has found only one excursion (in St Thomas) that she can partake in. Fortunately, though, she enjoys staying on the ship -- in that power chair, she can zip from one end to the other in no time!

We have similar laws in Europe , but the buildings shore excursions go to tend to be grandfathered in by 1000 years.
