poona1 Posted March 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Hello everyone...I was wondering if there is any difference between balconies on the same deck...I know the aft balconies have a bigger balcony but whats the difference in size between family and midship balcony...incidentally, I am on the gem cabin midship balcony 9070 and on the ncl website it states that the family balcony has a little more space...is this true....thanks so much! caddykid12 Posted March 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2017 No difference in room or balcony size. Family balcony is on the closest floors to kids area and pool and or splash academy. Mid ship is exactly what it is. In between the lowest deck and highest deck. I choose that so I'm not on the same floor as all family's with crying kids With the gem mid ship is 8 9 and 10. But BA... B2 and B3 category are the same size
don't-use-real-name Posted March 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Scan down the exterior of the ship (any ship) and you will see that all the balconies are pretty much the same. Note however where there is a break near a life boat station or an indent with a balcony cabin going around an obstruction be it on the exterior of the ship or a internal passage way. These balconies can be larger or smaller but not by much. Forward and Aft balconies are not all the same with suites mini-suites and balcony cabins being placed next to each other. Family suites mid-ship may have a double wide balcony looking from the interior but from the exterior is would appear as two distinct cabins. The specs that NCL provides are generalized. No where does NCL go around with a laser GPS precise measuring device down to the square inch ! CruiseDeckPlans may have the balcony dimensions pegged more precisely - but don't place any casino bets or lose any sleep over the results and AS USUAL *"YMMV"* ! ROFLOL ! victory2020 Posted March 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2017 For all of you who have sailed in inside & balcony - are the interiors the same size? Specifically on the Sky?
cb at sea Posted March 31, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2017 According to the NCL deck plans website, balconies run about 202 sq. ft (cabin/bath only) and insides are about 121 sq. ft (cabin/bath) so there is quite a difference in size on SKY. Where u get thst Info. The Total Cabin sq ft. Includes balcony. For instance in on the BA Total is 207 Balcony 32 Room total is 175 sq feet So either way. 175 is larger that 121. Quite significantly

don't-use-real-name Posted March 31, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Hey with NCL - One Size Fits All ! All the cabin specs are generalized. Until you actually are in a cabin do you have the opportunity to judge the merits. Thus with that noted CruiseDeckPlans and guests responses and photos here at CC are few of the ways to get an idea what makes a cabin what it is. After several cruises on different ships and I may add different cruise lines you will get an idea of what represents your perfect affordable spacious cabin quest ! Like politics you don't get to see the cabin UNTIL after signing on the dotted line that is for the first time - until then you won't be fooled the 2nd time around in your cabin selection - and of course this subject to reserving that specific cabin before anyone else. Some cruise lines portray their cabins better than others but it is unrealistic to have any cruise line photo each individual cabin when as noted above One Size Fits All On subsequent cruises get nosy and check out the other cabins without being obtrusive. Passing a cabin with door open and the cabin attendant making the cabin up just a glance can reveal a lot also visiting others in your party in their cabin. Best is during a Meet and Greet (Mingle) cabin crawl. Oh forgot to mention Google or YouTube the cruise line and cabin number for perhaps a photo commentary about your cabin selection ! I always book a balcony which is located in the middle of the ship as opposed to forward or aft. Middle to me is center, less ship movement, closer to the center of the action so to speak. The reason midship balconies BA on the Gem are 8 - 10 is because decks 11 boasts mid ship mini suites
