We stayed at the Embassy Suites. It was great for the manager's reception at night - 2 or 3 free drinks (alcoholic) and snacks - great way to wind down after a day of touring. And the cooked to order breakfast in the morning was great to fuel up before a day of touring.

We will be arriving in Anchorage 2 days before the cruise departs and plan on staying in Anchorage as that is not enough time for Denali.

Does anyone one have a favorite hotel or one to avoid?

Thanks.

I wouldn't stay in Anchorage... With two days you have time to explore a little. There's more to Southcentral Alaska than Denali and Anchorage.

Are you renting a car and exploring ? If so you might consider staying somewhere in the vicinity where you will be spending time. ie if you're going to Matanuska Glacier there's some nice cabins up there. If you're exploring the Turnagain Arm ( wildlife conservation center, portage Glacier, Byron glacier) you might want to stay in Girdwood.

Or stay in a nice B&B downtown Anchorage.

Also, which cruise port ... Seward or Whittier? and how are you getting there?

If it's seward i'd skip Anc and head right there! If you're travelling by train maybe you want to stay near the depot??

You need to consider lodging that will best suit your sightseeing needs for those days, your budget, how you're getting around and to the cruiseport, and your required amenities.
