Newcastle (Port of Tyne) -Rental car ?

Has anyone rented a car on a stop at the International Cruise Ship Port (Port of Tyne)?

 

If so - with which company? Will they pick you up at the dock? If not - how did you get to their office?

We have actually been to area before and wanted to rent a car so we could have the freedom of deciding where to go depending on weather and mood that day. (nice weather Roman stuff along the Wall, less nice weather - maybe a castle, or Beamish or Durham.

I did a search and found this site which list car rental places nearby. One is Sixt which is pretty well known. Might be worth a call.

You need to bear in mind that the ship docks in North Shields which is 8 or 9 miles out of Newcastle or Gateshead (Sixt) so the OP needs to find a way of getting from the ship to a car rental place or find one that will bring the car to the ship. I think there is a shuttle bus to take you into Newcastle.

The closest car rental we have been able to find is Enterprise in Shiremoor (near the hospital). There is a direct bus route from Coble Dene. The bus would take 20-30 minutes. So far this appears to be about the best we can do. Now we have to decide if we are willing to put up with the complication of busing there and back to the rental location. We may just end up going to Tynemouth to see the Priory.
