If Sky Cuba 4-day misses GSC, will it go to Nassau or get extra sea day?

I guess this question applies to any cruise that schedules GSC, but not Nassau. If weather doesn't permit the tenders to go to the island, does the ship do an impromptu visit to Nassau, or just sail slowly back to Miami?

It depends actually. I was on a Celebrity cruise last year that was supposed to stop at Coco Cay, but couldn't tender because of rough seas, and they were able to get us into Nassau instead. If the decision to skip GSC is made early enough (i.e. the day/night before), it really just depends on what the captain is able to negotiate, and if there is room in Nassau. There's a limited number of berths, so if it's a full port day you'll probably just have a sea day.

Thanks everyone! I will research a general idea of what I would do if we end up in Nassau. Knock on wood I've never been a cruise that had to skip the private island, but judging from comments on CC I may be in the lucky minority.

Not specfic to Sky, Breakaway doing 7 days out of NY missed its scheduled GSC visit both last week & this week ... due to rough seas/waters, unsafe to tender. Both times, it went to Nassau early, I am not sure what time they docked (as others noted, depends on availability of berths, etc.) but pulling in at 6 PM or 8 PM is rather common, done it & been there on the "misses" staying overnight.

That's not a whole lot, IMO, to do or see in the evening (aside from going to Atlantis, bar hopping or dining on the waterfront, etc.) but in the morning, you can be leave the ship as early as you wish & get 10 or 11 hours on shore.

Sea conditions do change and we're on the BA 3 years ago, ship came to a full stop at GSC & attempted to setup for tendering, and decision was made to called it off ... continued onward doing a series of ultra slow figure 8 turns for "Fun Day At Sea" (casinos re-opened & bar specials ran all day) before sailing into Nassau at sunset as all berths were taken. Check the Nassau port schedule on your sailings to see what's available, in case ... of course, those "escaping" from Coca Bay would be aiming for the piers as well.

If the Sky already called on Nassau & heading for GSC routing back toward Miami, then it might just be a fun day at sea instead of turning back the other direction.

The GEM's first scheduled stop this season @ GSC is Tuesday, 5/2 - will find out soon enough on the odds & NCL's plan B as she sail out NY next Saturday ... wish those luck & success.

Cruised on the Sky last week and missed the private island due to rough seas. The call was made while we were ported at Nassau. The Sky just stayed docked overnight at Nassau until the following day around 6pm we departed back toward Miami.

Sky was scheduled to be at GSC again today on its 4 days, it stayed overnight at Nassau where she remained this morning, heading back to Miami fairly soon. Tomorrow, she's on a new 3 days & for anyone wishing to track, next GSC visit is Sun. 4/30.

Then, it's our turn trying to tender & visit GSC next Tuesday. Breakaway has switched to Bermuda, so not visiting anytime soon.

I am just off the Sky, and we made it to GSC. No overnight in Nassau :)
