ColoradoGurl Posted May 8, 2017 #26 Share Posted May 8, 2017 My wife & I travel often professionally and need durable bags. We both bring an eBag large bag; one eBag backpack; and one small eBag bag for under the seat. Durable bags that are pricey but very functional with strong zippersGet a small, medium, and large cube as suggested above to help keep your clothes organized, easy to unpack, and unwrinkled. Russ I have the eBags Motherload Junior backpack and I love it! Sometimes it's nice to have your hands free, and it holds a lot of stuff when you use the cubes. CalLuvsCrusingToo Posted May 8, 2017 #28 Share Posted May 8, 2017 I agree with above.....GO to stores where you can Feel & see how Heavy a suitcase is, and how well the zippers & wheels work, before you Buy it. Some suitcases roll like a shopping cart, with a wheel that wants to go back to the parking lot!;p I just got back from 17 days in Europe/cruising/travel. Packed a 28" hardside with the best wheels available. It worked great, and very sturdy. However, the suitcase was 11 pounds Empty. So I packed "throwaway" clothes. Like many were items I would donate at home, that I would toss out along my trip. Worked out great. Got an all weather jacket from LLBean that folded into a pocket, very lightweight. Brought a weeks of undies, but did do a Load along the way. I had plenty of space in my suitcase, but it went over 50 pounds with souveniers! So it was cheaper to purchase a small carryon bag for 22 Euros, then to pay for a heavy suitcase on return. Plus I got a cute new carryon. :)
Linda the Book Lover Posted May 8, 2017 #29 Share Posted May 8, 2017 Oh how I cry when I can't fly SWA. Since our land/cruise time is close to 14-days we each take a suitcase and share a carry-on size for hotel portion of our trip. This time, I am biting the bullet as I am sure I am going to shop in Spain and Italy;) So we are taking three suitcases. Boy I hate paying for them but boy will I be happy with all of the empty space I get to fill!
gooch47 Posted May 8, 2017 #30 Share Posted May 8, 2017 I know this isn't very classy but I take fluffy items like undies and socks and put them in zip lock bags, sit on them and zip them up. Works better if you zip them up most of the way before sitting on them. You'd be amazed how flat they get.
