Free trip - suggestions?

Hi,

 

We won a free trip from Holland America a couple of years ago, it is good for 1 week in Mexico or the Caribbean. The trouble is we live in Vancouver and with my work schedule ( we own a construction company, so work is not very well scheduled), so we tend to to go to Alaska for a break.

 

When my wife asks about using it on an Alaska cruise we are told that because we get the casino rate or some other deal we cannot use it.

 

Has anyone ever won one of these and used it? Apparently you cannot use it during holidays.

 

Any suggestions?

They are offering you options on cruises which are less lucrative for them. Not that the cruises are bad, but just that they or any cruise line gets 2-3 times as much per week in Alaska as they do in Mexico or the Caribbean. I would look at times and your schedule. When I go to Mexico in the winter, much of the crowd is Canadian as it is a good way to get away from the cold. Look for Jan or Feb.

It is a short flight from Vancouver down to Los Angeles. Mexico is lovely, and a wonderful winter vacation. Go and enjoy!

HAL does most of their Mexican Riviera cruises out of San Diego, not Los Angeles, but you can fly into San Diego easily for a 7 or 10 day trip.
