If I buy OBC certificates are they refundable?

I'm considering buying certificates to add to my account. As they are charged at the rate when I booked the cruise which is a better than the current £ rate.

If I don't spend it all am I able to cash out or be refunded back to my card? If so how?

Yes we do it all the time. We actually take cash out at the casino (for a 3% fee but it still works out cheaper than current exchange rates) to use for our port spending. There is a limit to how much you can buy per cabin. The last night guest services will pay you out the balance in cash if it is less than $50 - or something small like that. Otherwise NCL will send you a cheque within about 6 weeks.

There was a really large thread a couple of years ago when NCL were selling OBC to Canadians at well below the exchange rate. People were buying thousands of dollars worth with the intention of cashing out in the Casino and paying the 3% fee. It meant they were making 18%+ on the deal. That is why NCL made a $1000 maximum and now change their exchange rate more regularly.

The rate they are giving you that it is locked into your NCL account when you book may look really favourable, but when you consider you can only get $1000 OBC it makes it relatively pointless as a money making exercise. I'm getting $1.435/£1 on NCL, so I could make around £83 on the current exchange, by the time you take off the 3% it's not worth the hassle.

If I could buy $30,000 and then get a cheque sent to me it then [emoji41]

If you could go back to look at the situation about 3 years ago when the bank exchange rate first went to 1.40CAD to the USD. People who had paid for cruises over 9 months out had the rate locked in at 1.09 or 1.18. That was a real profit possibility.
