I don't know of ANY hotel, anywhere, that doesn't put a temporary hold (amount will vary) on your cc when you check in. If you are paying in cash, they may well request a cash deposit.

Please excuse my curiosity, but why wouldn't you want to have a deposit hold?

 

What type of guarantee does the property have that you won't call China, order room service, order paid movies and then just leave?

Even B&Bs require a deposit for incidentals. I'd just get a pre paid Visa with a $50 or $100 limit and use that.

You just didn't know about it. I stayed at a Hampton Inn in Waycross, GA last week on points and they put a $50 hold on my credit card that took a week to drop off.

Yes, I've never heard of a hotel NOT putting a hold on a CC for incidentals. They ALWAYS put a hold of some sort.
