NCL Transfer from MCT to LGA

Has anyone used the NCL transfer from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal to LaGuardia? We thought this might be easy to do instead of car for hire service. A little more expensive but we thought this might be any easy way to get to LGA.

We did it last year, and it worked out very nicely for the two of us.

LGA is in the midst of a lot of construction!!! While it may cost more per person to take the NCL shuttle bus, at least you will not have to worry about a ticking $$$$ taxi meter while stuck in traffic. You may also want to consider taking a car service to the airport that will offer a flat rate that you can split among the passengers in the car. Dial 7 or Carmel are 2 car companies you may want to consider.

Question continued to pop up here & on East Coast forum:

Car service is highly recommended over taxi due to metered fare being higher from road congestion, gridlock, and the added unknown for airport access/exit delays, mostly in front of Terminal B (main/central terminal to many) vs. T-C and T-D used by Delta/regional & commuter partner flights. Plus, there is a lesser used T-A or Marine Air Terminal on the opposite end.

NCL motor coaches wait for all those booked, load luggages & leave for the airport ... seldom before 9:30 or 10 AM and face the same delays as car service, taxi and Uber/Lyft (and, disadvantage of not permitted to use the Henry Hudson Parkway - as it provides 2 alternate routes to LGA ) to go around tunnel & East River crossing. Coaches or buses typically make 3 stops, at all terminals to unload - service road congestion or gridlock conditions will make it worst, allow 30+ minutes if sitting on the bus)

Car service, I recommend, is usually best met across 12th Avenue at the traffic light crossing, an extra 75 to 100 yards - do not wait for other riders and is best if on a tight schedule and/or already late when disembarking the ship, often for circumstances beyond NCL's direct control. Fares are fixed with a confirmed price quote - free mobile App is available to book, wait time is typically less than 7 to 10 minutes, with real-time GPS tracking ... competitive vs. using Uber/Lyft in this area.

Advantage, took 2 car service rides recently to/from the pier on the Gem, near gridlock highway/road conditions at Queens Midtown Tunnel & RFJ Bridge meant that the driver informed us & use the parkway - Henry Hudson on a longer (by 5 miles) but faster route and got us to Queens - equivalent of LGA in just 30 minutes. BirdTravels just took a ride-sharing shuttle last week from LGA to midtown Manhattan & reported his trip took about 2 hours.

Taxi fares to/from LGA is metered - time charges for sitting in idle or slow moving charges are added to the fare. Otherwise, base fare is about $40 plus toll + tip, about $55 on more direct routes - delays could add $10 to $20 to the fare, depending on severity.

Car service fares, based on current Carmel quotes is $34 or $37 for standard or deluxe 4 door, $42 for a luxury sedan and $54 for a mini-van, plus toll + tip ... total would be as low as $48 to $57 all inclusive, about $71 for mini-van. There is a $3 or $4 digital discount code to reduce the fare for airport trips - both cash & credit cards accept, no surcharges.

NCL's current airport transfer is, subject to change, at $40 p/p one-way or $80 for 2. Bus transfer is usually offered for flights later than 1 PM (used to be 12 noon) - likely & earliest dropoff on airport transfer is around 11 to 11:30 AM depending on terminal at LGA. If ship is late and/or CBP is slow inside the terminal and trip routing for the bus is worst than usual, airport dropff will be pushed back further.

LGA's mess is real, sometimes, but usually only on weekdays with lots of commuter traffic and seldom on weekends - it is worsen during peak holiday travel time and when weather is less than ideal.

Keep in mind that according to latest survey data released, all 3 area airports are among the worst 10 to 20 airports with summer time delays, not winter travel - EWR is worst, LGA followed by JFK.

Please plan & book flight time with lots of time allowed for transfer from port to airport ... ditto for this summer's Amtrak & train delays due to scheduled maintenance & reductions in services from July thru early Sept.

P.S. There are multiple & active threads in the East Coast sub-forum, a "search" will yield plentiful useful info, tips & links ... use Waze or Google Maps for GPS-assisted real-time traffic navigation, even when taking motorcoaches or buses, subways & trains, and not just for driving to/from the pier, in NY area.
