BTB vs one longer cruise

Opinions please on doing back to back cruises vs one longer cruise. Do you do it for price, itinerary, or other perks? How inconvenient is it to get off and back on the ship?

We did a B2B in 2010 on the NCL Epic and it was and still is the best cruise we ever had. We were treated like royalty. We had the same cabin both legs so no moving. We had many hours on turnaround day to play on the slides by ourselves. In fact, we totally lucked out because the entertainment changed on that day so we had different shows. It also was an alternating itinerary so all different ports. Added bonus: we bought booze the first leg that was delivered to our cabin the last night of that week, as if we were disembarking, which we totally enjoyed the second leg ;)

I would consider a B2B because of the savings in airfares. Airfare is a killer from the west coast. Ten years ago, R/T air from LA to Miami was $207 non-stop ! ! Not today. It would have to be an alternating itinerary so I get different ports, however. How many of these alternating 7-dayers leave out of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or the Cape ?

Thanks for all the information concerning pros and cons. We just decided to do a 14-day Journey cruise to Southern Caribbean next fall. The itinerary will have 5 new cruise ports for us, and felt like that alone was worth any extra expense. Also with such a port-intensive itinerary we opted to go with an interior cabin over a usual balcony to also offset cost. Glad to hear they don't repeat things from one week to the next on a continuous cruise. Makes me more excited for this cruise now! :D
