Splendor, Spring Break 2018, Families vs. Parties

We are booked on a 7 Day Splendor next March 24th out of Long Beach, a Spring Break cruise for my wife and (10 year old) daughter.

 

I am second guessing myself on the extent to which this cruise will be used by "party hearty" college kids and others. We are "go with the flow" kind of people, but if this cruise has a reputation of turning into a party ship, I want to rethink my plans.

 

I'm going to ask my travel agent, but I figured I would get a more useful answer here.

 

Families vs. Fiestas.... how do you think it will shake out?

It may, it may not...most likely not too bad.

Is that spring break for the local schools there?

Where I live spring break is in early March, but some schools are not until mid-April.

Generally speaking The cruises that tend to get the most "spring breakers" are the shorter weekend cruises.

I was on the Miracle this past March out of LB, and you could not really tell that it was spring break. There were some kids (including mine), but few college kids. Cabo certainly was party central, but the ship was not. I think that the older college kids tend to stick with the shorter party cruises, not the 7 day cruises.

 

Bottom line - don't worry about it. It was a great cruise!

We were on the Miracle spring break last year,,I too had the same worries...there were virtually NO college kids...very few high school age. THe main problem was with tweens running lose on the ship. When we went ashore at Cabo there were many many partners on the beach. WE too are doing this year March 24 on the Splendor so hopefully it will be sane again!:D

We sailed Miracle the last week of April. The number of drunk, poorly behaved adults was astounding.

It seemed like the average age on board was early 30's. It was a very inexpensive seven day cruise, which we're guessing why so many people bought Cheers and took advantage of it.

We sailed on Splendor this past Spring Break (March 19th-26th) with a group of 13 in total and didn't see many college age adults at all. There were quite a few teens (13-17) all over the ship but they were pretty well behaved. My kids (19, 13 & 9) had a ball! The only drunk and disorderly person we saw was an older man in the casino who was SO plastered he had to be escorted out by security and eventually was made to remain in his cabin until he sobered up lol crazy! but overall, it was a great cruise! We're thinking of taking the kids again this coming Spring Break.

We sail out of Long Beach every spring during various spring break weeks.

There are no college partiers on board.

There are lots of adults and families and some of the adults drink too much but you don't see college parties here.

You will have a fine time on board with your family!!

BTW we are on the March 24 sailing and are seniors so if we can manage surely you can manage too!!

You can't predict the crowds.

We've sailed MexRiv 3 times in different seasons, all 7 day cruises, and this cruise tends to be very family driven. Large groups of families but overall a very normal crowd.

 

Now of course there's always the drunk few rowdy adults that occupy serenity and the hot tubs but it is what it is.

 

Cabo itself could have lots of college age kids vacationing in Cabo and they too will be rowdy and drunk.

 

We almost always go to The Office and it's pretty much a party there. The margs are great and the food amazing.

 

Cabo prices are like LA. Expensive for MX compared to Mazatlan and PV. PV is least expensive and always fun. Old town PV is where we go.

 

Mazatlan is great for grabbing a taxi to any of the major hotels and enjoying a beach day. Beer and food is inexpensive and the beaches are clean.

 

Your cruise will be fun and likely with lots of other fams. I wouldn't overworry about drunk college kids as they can't afford a cruise and booze. They usually shack up 4-8 in a hotel room our suite and buy bottles to imbibe when in Cabo.

 

That's about what they can afford for 3-4 days, then jet back home to LA or other west coast cities.
