You can also subscribe to a thread as you post to it. At the bottom of the message panel there is a pair of blue buttons "Post reply"/Preview Post: and then "Additional Options". followed a few inches by a second pair of blue buttons. Immediately above that second pair of blue buttons is a chance to subscribe to the thread.
