How to get free quickly in port?

We almost never try to get off quickly at port stops. We usually hang back for at least a half hour or so. For an upcoming cruise, I need to get off as soon as possible to get a rental car and meet our schedule. What is the protocol for that? Does a line start to form? Is there a place you are required to wait? When should I plan on trying to queue? Many thanks.

They discourage people from starting to form a line, and they probably won't even tell you where the exit is going to be, but it should be obvious enough where they are setting up the security. If it's on the promenade deck, there are usually public spaces right there where you can monitor the action and be ready to pounce. If it's on one of the lower decks, you will have to wait in the staircase or in the hallway (but they may ask you to leave and wait for the cruise director to announce that people can go ashore).

You could book a suite and have priority boarding and exiting. :D

You should check to see if you have to tender on said port, if so pay attention to where and when the tender ticket location is and be early so you can get on the first tender this will be in the dailies the night before, if this stop is not your first stop, it usually repeats itself as for the same location and deck for disembarking, some times elevator use is restricted to the disembarking decks, so if u get off on deck 5 make your way to deck 6 and hang out close to stairs....it usually goes fast, unless an unforeseen event happens,ie medical evac, then no one leaves until that person is taken off the ship, we had close to one hour wait on our med cruise when we got to the Rome port(cant remember the port name)...

Ok, thanks all. Not a tender. I'll just go down as we're pulling in and scope out the situation and do my best. I really try to avoid scrums and lines, so this is not my forte, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

We had a suite last summer on Jade, and I found this "perk" less than desirable. It was a painfully slow elevator and there was a queue to get on to the elevator at Cagneys, and then you'd get down, and the concierge broke you through the line to annoyed passengers. We showed up once and there were like 40 people waiting in Cagneys and we waited through like 5 elevator trips of 5 minutes each, and we didn't even show up first thing. Maybe it got more streamlined later, but after that, we just lingered over breakfast, let things clear out, and then did our thing 30 or 60 minutes after arriving.

Some plan to start going to the queue 30 minutes before dock schedule to make use of the lift when needed.

As someone else already mentioned, Haven and suite receive priority as well as people who have an NCL excursion booked etc. I would be hesitant to book something with such a tight schedule. Maybe lighten up your schedule a little?

If you're the same group as last year that seemed to move as a single organism and acted as though it was the world's biggest affront if they couldn't always take the same elevator or sit at a single table wherever they wanted on demand, then I may need to cancel my cruise. :0)
