Alaska Inside Passage?

A "true" Inside Passage cruise goes to the east of Vancouver Island. These cruises begin/end in Vancouver.

However, getting to Juneau from Seattle, for example, involves some portion of the Inside Passage. Just not the famous part.

There's the Canadian Inside Passage and the Alaskan Inside Passage. As Bruce said, the Canadian one is when the ships depart or return to Vancouver. The ships travel east of Vancouver Island, between the Island and the BC mainland. Cruises departing from Seattle tend to sail west of Vancouver Island, out in open ocean. They head into the Alaskan Inside Passage as they get close to Ketchikan.

I know this is probably a dumb question, but how do you know if your Alaska cruise does the Inside Passage or not?

Juneau, Ketchikan & Skagway are all located on the inside passage.

The differentiation is whether or not you sail to the west of Vancouver Island (from Seattle) or the East (from Vancouver).
