Wolfhunt Posted July 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Going on the Pride out of Baltimore this weekend. This is the first cruise we have taken that leaves from a north-east port. Was wondering, when the ship heads up or down the east coast, is the coast within view? I have a good long range zoom lens and was thinking about trying to get some pics of some of the lighthouses as we go by (if they can be seen). Thehyperfisherman Posted July 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2017 When i went back last august on the pride our first call was port canaveral so we stayed pretty close to shore but it seems they go just far enough so land dissapeers over the horizon
Taylorcast Posted July 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2017 I'm pretty sure that in order to open the casino, they have to be in international waters (correct me if I'm wrong). International waters is 12 nautical miles off the coast (13.8 lateral miles). I'm pretty sure it's too far to see land, otherwise it might be just a sliver in the distance Sent from my iPhone using Forums
PAcruiser25 Posted July 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2017 No, I haven't seen any except for when docking in Nassau.
summersigh Posted July 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2017 We've sailed out of Baltimore a couple of times and you can see lighthouses going down the bay. We printed a map of them before going so we'd know where we were and what we were seeing. Going up the bay is done during the middle night so you can's see much once you enter the bay.. I have a good long range zoom lens and was thinking about trying to get some pics of some of the lighthouses as we go by (if they can be seen). If you are referring to lighthouses along the coast of NC, they are not visible. A few years back we cruised on the Pride over the 4th of July and I posted a similar question wondering if we could see any fireworks. Folks who responded suggested we are about 80 miles off the eastern coast and if the captain could do it, could possibly cruise a bit closer to the coast to get a far off glimpse of the fireworks from coastal towns, but we never say anything. Don't know if it will be much of a photo op, but just as the Pride is going across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel heading out of the Chesapeake Bay, the Cape Henry lighthouses could be visible, even at night when we'll go by. I THINK the newer, black and white lighthouse is lit at night. It will also be around 1am when we go by.
winddawn Posted July 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 26, 2017 I did not see any lighthouses when I cruised Pride from Baltimore down the bay. I did see a lot of fantastic scenery though. I had an aft wrap balcony suite and got some great photos from the balcony. See attachment for one. Coming back to Baltimore you can't see much until it gets daylight. cb at sea Posted July 26, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 26, 2017 You will be able to see the Va. Beach shoreline as you head out to sea and of course, the coastline until you pass that point. After that, it's all ocean, baby.

nybumpkin Posted July 26, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 26, 2017 The best view I've had of a lighthouse from Pride is the Sandy Point Light, right by the western end of the Bay Bridge.
iamsteph Posted July 26, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Never seen a lighthouse, but have seen the Frying Pan Tower off in the distance!
Wolfhunt Posted July 27, 2017 Author #12 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Thanks everyone. I will keep an eye out for any as we leave the bay but won't worry about the ones farther down the coast.
Blackjack22 Posted July 28, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 28, 2017 I don't know about lighthouses but you can def see shore the entire last night coming back from Carib on a 7 day, at least in my experience. May change due to weather/sea conditions.
