First time visitor to New York City

I always recommend that family/friends avoid staying in a Times Square hotel. Times Square is unbelievably crowded and chaotic with office workers during the workweek and tourists/theatergoers all the time.

The Upper West Side is a great neighborhood (it's where I live so I'm biased) and you will find an actual area where New Yorkers live, beautiful architecture, reasonable restaurants, and great proximity to Central Park and Riverside Park. Plus, we have amazing subway and bus options that will take you anywhere you likely want to go. I live near the 72nd St. subway station and it's a 4 minute subway ride to Times Square.
