farthinghill Posted August 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2017 I have broken two bones in my foot just two days before embarking on Explorer so I'm more interested in the elevators than I would otherwise be. Can anyone tell me if the aft elevator (it's the one nearest to our cabin) go down as far as the Compass Rose? It does not appear to do so on the deck plan. DaveFr Posted August 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Unfortunately, the aft elevators only go down to Deck 5. Compass Rose is on Deck 4. You will have to take the elevator to Deck 5 and either walk forward to the Reception area and go down the steps to Deck 4 or take the forward elevator down to Deck 4. Hopefully, someone has found a more direct way to get to Compass Rose from aft suites.
mrlevin Posted August 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Hopefully, someone has found a more direct way to get to Compass Rose from aft suites. There is a way; crew only. You take crew stairs by elevator on Deck 5 down one flight and then make a right at bottom of stairs and enter the galley. Once in the galley make a left and then a right when it dead ends; you will then see a swinging door that will let you enter Compass Rose on starboard side rear of dining room. Travelcat2 Posted August 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Agree with what DaveFr posted. The ship is not that large and hopefully you can take your time to get to the forward elevator. So sorry to hear about the accident. Hope that once you are onboard you will have a great time! P.S. Marc, if he could take the stairs, he could take the elevator to down and take the regular stairs down a flight. No need to use the crew stairs which are likely to carpeted and could be more dangerous.
farthinghill Posted August 6, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Thank you all for the replies and all the info. Our last three cruises were on Riviera and I had not taken into account that Explorer is smaller so it won't be such a hike to the forward elevators. This morning we thought we would have to cancel but when we told the medics the situation they changed their minds about plaster and crutches and gave me a pneumatic boot instead. Now I've had a few hours to get used to it I'm not so worried about how I'll manage - still determined to have a great time.
