The Summit ditchs a Quebec stop over new speed limits in Gulf of St. Lawrence

A move by the Canadian government to protect North Atlantic right whales in the Gulf of St. Lawrence is having an impact on the cruise ship industry in parts of Quebec, as stops in the Gaspé and Saguenay have been cancelled.

The Celebrity Summit ship's stop at the wharf in La Baie scheduled for October 2 was also cancelled.

Good move on Celebrity's part. There aren't a lot of Right Whales left.

Just returned from HAL New England cruise. They shortened two ports by an hour, Quebec City and PEI, due to the speed restrictions. Saw some whales though from the ship:) not sure what kind.

We are on both the September 24th and October 8th Summit sailings (legs one and two of a B2B2B). We received an e-mail on August 25th of the itinerary modifications for both of the New England/Canada cruises. And several days ago we received a telephone call from one of the shoreside concierges confirming we knew of the changes.

I'm on the October 8 cruise. We received notice from Celebrity some time ago. Good for Celebrity and the government of Canada. I'm willing to sacrifice a few hours in Quebec and PEI so that the whales have a chance to survive. We're all in this together, including the whales!
