Rare Peachypooh Posted September 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Has anyone done either? We are trying to decide based just on the ease of embarkation/disembark not on sightseeing Rome vs Barcelona. Thanks.
grovesteve Posted September 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2017 We got right on and off in the port by Rome, but it is an hour from Rome. We have also cruised from Barcelona and the ship docks right in the down town area.

Hi Peachyboo, My last 2 Epic trips, we joined in Barcelona, we had the option of joining in Rome, but decided it was more awkward to join there. As prev posters say, the port is on your doorstep, both times we had hotel near CC monument, it was easy to walk over & get the port bus.

SullytheBFG Posted September 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Barcelona definitely, taxi to the port takes about 20 minutes.
Linda the Book Lover Posted September 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Barcelona definitely, taxi to the port takes about 20 minutes. Agree. We stayed in Barcelona pre-cruise but took a taxi to the airport when we disembarked very easy and quick.
Tiggertastic Posted September 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Approx 80% of cruisers board in Barcelona. Rome is a busy day excursion port with lots of people getting off early. Barcelona is 20 minutes max and $39 to the airport. Rome is over an hour and over €100 to the airport. Barcelona is Sunday, Rome Wednesday. We've boarded 5 or 6 times in Barcelona and giving Rome a try. The roll calls and meets work by Barcelona so you board Wednesday in Rome and the meet will have happened but you will still be on for the next week one. Restaurants and shows fill up the first part of the Rome cruise as its end of the Barcelona one so use the online booking 90 days out.
