chipsdog Posted September 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2017 I am going to book a New Year cruise, have a choice of Oceana or Aurora, not bothered where we visit. Which is the best ship? Which has the biggest casino? thank you
Ranchi Posted September 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Would always be Aurora for me... but that's not a lot of help as it's personal taste. It's quite a few years since I travelled on Oceana but it has a glitzy atrium which is the hub of life on board. (I prefer public rooms rather than socialising in thoroughfares). If I remember correctly on Oceana you have to go through the pub to get to the show lounge. Where Oceana scores for me is the amount of open deck space....but for winter that isn't much help. Aurora is maybe a little more traditional. I have enjoyed cruises on both & both have a strong band of supporters.
kalos Posted September 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2017 We have booked Aurora for this New Year and Oceana for the next New Year and have not done either ship as yet but tend to research via sites like this one http://beyondships.com/PO-Oceana-Tour-4.html Looks like the Oceana has the larger casino of the two ships, if that's what is swaying your choice . pisces14 Posted September 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2017 The Aurora would be my choice. I didn't like the Oceana but it depends on what people are looking for in a cruise. The Oceana is a sun ship which is probably why it was docked in the Med for the summer. Everything revolves around the atrium. If you like a noisy ship that's the one for you. tartanexile81 Posted September 25, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Another vote for Aurora. Not keen on Oceana at all.
annieuk Posted September 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Love both of them which isn't going to be a lot of help to you. Our three favourite P&O ships are Adonia. Aurora and Oceana. Ocean's atrium certainly has the 'Wow' factor, I still think 'Wow' when I enter even though we must have been on her half a dozen times now, maybe more. We like her Promenade Deck, and the other public rooms, love Cafe Jardin - hopefully still going to be there now they've introduced new menus. We have always used it for breakfast and found it a much more peaceful place than the Horizon buffet. Aurora is certainly more traditional. We love the fact that she looks like a ship, not a block of flats. She had lovely lounges and it's easy to find somewhere to have a peaceful drink. I suppose I would say if you want traditional - and I don't mean old-fashioned and boring - choose Aurora; if you want glitzy then choose Oceana. We've always thought that Oceana is made for the Caribbean and hot weather ports, she doesn't have so much inside space as Aurora. Well that's our opinion but I don't think I've made it any easier for you to decide.
