Drink package questions

Ok my wife and I are going on a 4 day out of Miami. I like my beers and am a big boy at 49 years old and can put them away and remain ok and never out of control, one might say I'm a professional. I was going to purchase the drink package when I noticed there is a 15 drink limit, I only drink beer and maybe a wine at dinner. How strict are they with the 15 limit? I would hate to get to the casino after dinner and be told I'm flagged. Also if I choose not to get the package do they still put the 15 limit on you? Before everybody judges me I know its a lot of drinks but I start early and its a long day. Thanks

The 15 drink limit is the max they will allow you with the cheers package. Once you reach it you are tapped out. Also, keep in mind ALL adults in your cabin must purchase this drink package, not just you, so take that into your cost factors.

Finally, it is only the cheers program that has the 15 limit anything over this you have to pay additional. If you buy them individually, you are not limited. They do have "bucket" beer specials onboard by the way. Not sure of the price as we don't drink beer, but know I have seen them.

If you get cheers, yes, you are cut off - can't buy them. I have heard that some people have successfully paid for beers "for friends" BEFORE they hit 15. You could try this. If your wife would not reach 15, maybe she could give you hers?

If you are afraid you will be shut off, don't buy Cheers. No limit then.

They do cut you off at 15. The system won't let them sell you anymore alcoholic drinks.

HOWEVER, we are definitely heavy drinkers, and we only hit the 15 limit one night. And that was more than enough. The bartenders seemed impressed and were joking about it with us.

I was worried about this and brought our 1 bottle of wine per person carry on allowance, and we never even had a chance to touch those. I recommend the drink package for someone who can drink a lot. Also, if you do hit 15, your wife can buy a beer and hand it to you when you walk away from the bar.

My understanding is that if you have cheers, when you get to the 15 limit you are cut off. They aren't able to give you any more free or purchased. What people have been able to do is find a friendly bartender who will alert them when they hit 14, then start buying rounds 'for friends'. If your wife isn't a huge drinker you may just want to weigh the cost of 2 cheers packages against buying buckets of beer as you go.

Bottled beers start at $5.25 a piece, and go up to $6.50 for some specialty brews, Foster's oil cans are also available for $7.95. Buying by the bucket saves you $2 off the total bill of the mix and match of 4 bottles (which can be delivered caps intact for later consumption), but only when yo pay as you go. When you have Cheers you may still order by the bucket, but all 4 bottles are delivered open as you are buying around for friends. Also no discount is given since 1 beer is taken as part of your package counting towards your 15 alcoholic drink max. On all ships there is now a few tap choices as well, these start at $4.75, but unfortunately there is no discount for buying a round. Also some ships now have self beer stations with glasses starting at $3.75, but these are not covered by Cheers (though a purchase from them counts towards your 15). Pitchers, sample tasters, and yards of beer are not covered by Cheers. Also not covered by Cheers are beverages ordered through room service alcoholic or soft drinks will be charged at the current bar menu prices.

Now if beer (or wine as it is similarly priced by glass) is your primary choice of beverage, when compared to the bucket or tap prices you will need to consume between 8 and 13 beers daily to equal the program purchase price. This is easily possible when spending all day on the ship, but take into account your port day plans. Remember the Cheers program is only valid while on the ship, even when an islands or port s owned by the cruise line. With the 15 alcoholic drinks a day limit if you fall short one day it is hard to make up for it on another. The real payoff with Cheers is for the cocktail drinker or top shelf shot taker.

Thank you all for the info it was very helpful, I think we will get the cheers package. Also with every drink do you have to still sign for it? We have been sailing on celebrity because they offer free drink packages with no limit. Also they did away with signing for it and getting a receipt. Thanks again!!!

You sign for them.

You can also order online a couple 4 packs that will be in your room when you board. These are not part of Cheers and you'll have to pay for them but they do come in handy sometimes. ;)
