Platinum benefit re speciality restaurants

I am trying to determine exactly what my benefits as a platinum cruiser are with regards to the specialty restaurants. I'll be on the Vista next month and would like to try JiJi Asian Kitchen and the Cucina del Capitano. Of course, I would prefer to do so without having to make an advance reservation. Does my platinum status allow me to just show up and eat without having to make a reservation even if all the reserved dining slots are taken?

The Carnival website says platinum guests have the following benefit: "Priority reservations at Main Dining Room and Specialty Restaurant".

As a practical matter, what does this mean? Who makes reservations for the main dining room, anyway?! I assume this means I can get my preference of early or late seating, but that is not what I am concerned about. Do any other platinum cruisers have experience with this for the specialty restaurants ? Thank you.

Priority means you float to the top of the requested reservations, after Diamonds.

If you just show up, you take your chance like everyone else.

Priority reservations at Main Dining Room is for Early, Late, or Your Time Dining. That means that your choice will be honored before FTTF and General population.

Specialty Restaurant is pretty much the same as above.

We sailed Vista Transatlantic in October 2016. We are Platinum also. We did not make reservations for any of the Specialty Restaurants and had a hard time finding slots that were open. We were finally able to get seated at unpopular times. Knowing what I know now, I would have made reservations before the cruise or upon embarkation.

 If you have an idea of when you might want to go to a particular restaurant reserve the time spot now on line and if you can't make if just cancel and ask for a new time. No cost to cancel and you might get lucky. We are sailing on the Sunshine in Nov. and have the steak house reserved already and are trying to decide when we want to do the other 2 restaurants. We will have all 3 reserved before the cruise.

The specialty restaurant guarantee for Diamonds and priority for Platinum means essentially nothing. If the time you want is available you get it. They do not move or cancel anyone who already has a reservation.

This seems to hold true.
