Rare SRQbeachgirl Posted July 7, 2018 #101 Share Posted July 7, 2018 Drinking age in Texas when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's was 18. The Republic of Texas raised the drinking age to 21 in 1986 , mostly because the Federal govt cut highway funding to states that kept their legal drinking age below 21. Ironically, drinking age on Federal reservations (i.e. military bases) was 18 until well into the 90's...I was a beneficiary of that largess! I was a "victim" of the Texas drinking age change, as I turned 18 in 1984 and could legally drink for a year. Then they changed it to 21 and didn't include a "grandfather" clause, so I was stuck being underage again! Ugh!
