bfamily4 Posted October 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2017 We are a family of 5 cruising on the Oasis on Jan. 28. Plan is to visit the Kennedy space centre on debarkation day (Feb. 4) and staying at Country Inn overnight before heading to Disney world (where we will spend 4 days). Our plan was to rent a car at the port on debarkation day and drop it off at Disney's car care center but it would cost us $750 CDN to rent a car. That's a lot of money for a 5 day car rental! My question is, is there a cheaper alternative? Can we get around in a cab while staying at port canaveral/cocoa beach area? We will just need transportaion to space centre/hotel. We would also like to visit the beach before heading to disney but not it's not a must. We were also thinking of just taking Cortrans back to MCO and then taking the Magical Express from there to our disney hotel as a cheaper alternative. Has anyone done this before and what did you use for transportation. I should also mention that the kids are 8, 7, and baby will be 11 months. TIA! JohninDC Posted October 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2017 When do you travel? $750 - even in Canadian dollars - is too much. I would keep shopping for a reasonable car rental deal. You do not need the car while at WDW, especially if staying on the property, so you could use Uber or a local taxi to get to KSC, and then just rent a car for one-day to get the 5 of you plus bags from PC to WDW. Clarea Posted October 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 11, 2017 I agree, $750 seems excessive unless you are opting for a full size van, as opposed to a minivan. I can usually do a minivan for around $70 per day, and I have no problem getting 5 plus bags in a minivan.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 12, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Wow, I don't understand that pricing. I would relook at that one (even call them) and look at other options. Keith
RogueMonk Posted October 12, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Try budget with one of these two codes - V183800 or V304301.
bfamily4 Posted October 12, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted October 12, 2017 thanks everyone for your help. I went back online and played around with different times for pick -up/drop-off and completely got different rates. I was initially quoted $754 cdn for a pick-up @ 0930 Feb. 4 and drop off @ 1800 Feb.8 (for a mid-size SUV). Once I changed the drop-off time to 1130 the rate dropped to $327 cdn! We will most likely rent a car because it's more convenient with the baby and all his gear. lol. I do have a question about Cortrans. We plan on using them from our Orlando hotel to the port. Do they have seatbelts in their shuttles? Will we be able to use our own carseat?
JohninDC Posted October 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 12, 2017 You should be able to use your car seat, but call them to double check.
easyboy Posted October 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 12, 2017 We always use Budget car rental when in Orlando. Price is very reasonable. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
dd likes to cruise Posted October 12, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Try the one way from the port to the Orlando airport (if you are planning on not using the car at Disney). Then you can do the disney transportation from the airport.
