Casino payouts and Cheers questions - yes I tried searching first.... :)

I tried searching both CC site and Carnival site with no answer to my questions. I have my bf's mother in a different cabin eligible to charge on our cabin account.

1. If there are casino winnings from any one of us, is it tied to the individuals sign/sail card or to the cabin? I get she could take advances and we would get hit with the cost but we'll do our best to not tell her that option is available... LOL ;)

2. If we purchase the Cheers program for our cabin, are any drinks that she purchases go against our count? I didn't think so since it's tied to each traveler in the cabin but wasn't sure.

Trying to decide if I either take her off and set up her own account with my credit card or leave it as is with her having charging privileges to our cabin.

Thanks!

Any casino winning will be tied to the individuals sign and sail card by creating a casino account with your own pin number to apply funds and winnings to. She will be able to charge money to your sign and sail account to use in the casino if you giver her charging privileges, but will not have access to your winnings.

As far as cheers, since she is not in your cabin you do not have to buy the cheers program for her. The cost of any drinks she gets will be applied to the sign and sail account she has charging privileges too.

Hope this helps.

Kind of thought all of the above but wanted second opinion. Of course I could call Carnival but these days I feel like I can ask three different reps and get three different answers LOL.

Thanks so much!

Casino winnings are tied to the individual and have nothing to do with the stateroom or sign & sail account. So, for instance if someone was to win a jackpot of over $1200 the person AT THE MACHINE would have to supply a SS# and be issued a 1099 form. Winnings at most table games are not subject to tax forms nor is individual slot machine winnings of under $1200, even if you have multiple wins that TOTAL over $1200.

Where are you getting $1,200 from? Is $1,200 something unique to cruising?

You have to pay taxes on $600 or more. I paid taxes on a $1,000 gift card that I won from Albertsons in 2016.

$1,200 for slot machine winnings is correct for being issued a 1099 form. It is not unique to cruising. It's U.S. law.

If it happens to you, be sure to keep track of the money you spent gambling. If you itemize your deductions, you can offset your gambling winnings by what you spent gambling up to the amount you won. Casinos, both on land and at sea, will allow you to request a statement of what you spent gambling.

Casino winnings on cruiseships mirror the policies of U.S. Land-based casinos (dispite sailing in international waters and being NOT being registered in the U.S.). Land based casinos require a 1099 form be filed when a slot machine win totals over $1200 IN ONE WIN. Most table games like roulette and craps are not subject to this rule (some poker tournaments are subject to this rule)

Just a few questions,...

Is there a special reason that you are paying for you boyfriend's mother's on board spending? Like is this a gift for her? In which case I can understand you fronting her bill, but you do have other options than letting her having unfettered access to your funds via a joint S&S account.

1) Once on board set a spending limit on her card that will come off yours or your BF's S&S account. She would still be able to add her own cash, gift card, or other credit or debit card if she over spends your preset limit. Also if you feel generous, the limit can be adjusted at any point during the cruise.

2) Before boarding buy her a Carnival gift card(s). Unfortunately unless you find a B&M retailer that has old stock these cards start at $100. If the full amount is not spent a simple download to her players account on the slots in the casino can be done so she can withdraw the remaining funds. Otherwise a new gift card will be issued to the address on record for the S&S account.

3) Buy Cruise Cash through the online FunShops prior to boarding. This is basically an advance purchase of on board credits and, once she physically checks-in at the port be credited to her S&S account. These start in increments of $25 and will max out at $500 per cabin, but be careful once the cruise is over the unused portion is non-refundable. She could use the same casino method to retrieve any unused balance. Also be watchful that you are ordering the general cruise cash, bar cash is only good for purchases cycled through the beverage department, and photo cash is only good fr purchases in the Pixels gallery.

4) A mixture of any or all of these methods.

If its just a simple case of she does not have a CC of her own to use, she can just open her own S&S account with cash. There is no need for anyone on board, even if in the same cabin to be part of the same S&S spending account.
