Fare Viewer... Possible Dumb Question...

So I just checking out the Fare Viewer for our upcoming cruise, as I saw another thread where people were talking about how they were getting hefty chunks of change back for theirs... The confusion I'm having comes with the wording on the "Category Fares" portion listed after you plug in all your information...

The price column is titled "Total Cabin Amount Cruise Only"... I feel like this could be interpreted two different ways, one being the TOTAL (cabin rate + Port/Taxes, gratuities extra) or JUST the Total Cabin Fare (Port/Taxes & gratuities extra)...

If the amount shown includes Cabin and Port/Taxes, then I would be due a credit of $230ish, similar to what most are reporting... However, if its ONLY Cabin Fare, then I actually already have a better fare by about $50...

I'm afraid to just submit the Price Protection request on the off chance that its the latter, and I will end up owing money which would really blow...

Anyone have any insight on the terminology and how I should proceed?

TIA!

Josh

You won't ever need to pay more, they just won't honor your request.

I'm pretty sure it's cabin fare only, though.

It's the base fare before taxes and port charges. EM

Thanks both for the quick replies... I guess the deal I got originally is the best I'll likely see...

Be sure to take any onboard credit into account also. For instance my original fare includes $50 in OBC and a new lower fare might not. The new fare would have to be more than $50 less to benefit me.

Right on... The current deal would have given me $50 OBC, but my current deal was already $48 less than the new deal...

I dont need $2 that badly....

May I add another question to this thread? I knew about the fare checker previously and I saved some money on Early Saver fares. We have an upcoming cruise next May but our booking was a casino fare. How do I periodically check to see if the fare has dropped if there is no casino fare listed?

You check it in fare viewer or by doing a mock booking on Carnival's website, since you won't see targeted offers like casino offer fares in fare viewer. It isn't likely you'll find a lower fare than a casino fare. In case you didn't know: when you originally book, if you book early saver, you can immediately price match to the casino offer you have received after you book the early saver fare. Doing that will allow you to price match after final payment due date. You will be subject to the more restrictive early saver rules though.

Fareviewer is a starting point for me when checking prices. If it shows the price has dropped I go through a mock booking to make sure, because there is the possibility that the Government Taxes and Fees could be higher. We booked the Breeze for next year and then our son decided to join us in our cabin just 2 weeks later. The Government Taxes and Fees had gone up but only he had to pay the higher fees. And when you price match they will increase those if they have gone up. I have seen people post on here that they did actually owe more money even though the fare had dropped because those fees were higher now than when they booked.

I'm going to add to the confusion. I've heard that Carnival knows when you're on and when and what you're looking at. If you do a "mock booking" doesn't Carnival see it's YOU again? I'll even do it without using my number. If so, why would they have anything lower, as it would be your gain, their loss? My thoughts are if they are watching me then the prices will never be lower. I've only gotten a few dollars here and a few dollars there, nothing ever major. I also check at least twice a day and find that the prices are all over the place. Same goes for options. Some days oceanview with obstruction is available, some days they aren't. Some days one floor is sold out, and the next day they aren't sold out. It just seems to be helter skelter with both prices and what's available. Anyone else think this?

If you clear your history/cookies - they don't know it's you. You also can use a different browser.. Like Firefox instead of Chrome which you usually use.

It is also good to watch taxes because if they've gone down - chances are you will get that refunded onboard the ship.

If you look at your CabinConfirmation - the first line says Cabin Fare - that is the rate you are comparing. They also know how many rooms have sold at what rate - so chances are I won't get price drop unless something happens between now and May and people cancel. My cabin rate is about $20-30 less but I also have the $50 OBC which I would lose if I changed to a reduced fare. I disagree with this as I feel that the OBC promo was a separate piece than the cabin rate but I understand their logic. It's like two shirts being on sale for the same price and one includes a free tote bag. They're the same shirt but one has a bonus.

Not true. Just picked up $187 in savings this week. I check a few times a week as sales can run only a few days at a time.

Thank you for your reply. Didn’t really think there would be any reduction on a casino fare but thought I would ask to make sure. We also have an interior booked early saver for our daughter so I will keep an eye for it.
