Yes that's right ! Ron was so disappointed as he collected stamps from there as a child ! :(

This happens a lot in the South Atlantic. Our cruise made several successful landings on Tristan but never made it to South Georgia!

Ooooooh, I didn't want to read that! South Georgia is THE reason I've booked the 'same' cruise in 2019.

I know weather is always a gamble and can't be controlled. I expected there may be landings cancelled... but never really considered we might 'miss' SG completely!

Fingers crossed.

The Quark who were to visit South Georgia in the 4 days before our sailing from the Falklands didn't get a landing in South Georgia and instead returned to the Falklands.

So that is the problem with Expedition cruising.

The only reason I was a little upset at missing the landings was because one was to see the chinstrap penguin which would make the 18th specie of 19 for penguins.I needn't have worried. They swam right by the ship-

So we are now on the way to cruise Cumberland bay to see...well glaciers. On the way we get a glimpse of one of the landing sites.

This photo is of Harker glacier. Many of South Georgia's glaciers are retreating. This one however has been stable since the 1970s and has advanced since photographed by Frank Hurley in 1914.

That's some of the staff from Grytkiven who will be leaving in a couple of days after spending the summer here.
