Sandy1975 Posted October 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2017 Hi everyone, I know this is a port question but the DR forum is not very active and it has more questions than answers about this port. The latest itinerary changes for my upcoming cruise has Us stopping in Punta Cana, tendering at Cap Cana. I am having a hard time finding info on this port and I was hoping someone can help here. We normally take a taxi to a nearby beach and stay there for 2 or3 hours, return to the ship and walk around the port. We want to go to Juanillo Beach, which seems to be pretty close. Are there taxisin the tendering area? Any idea on the cost? What about price of loungers, etc at this beach? Is thereanything to do around the port area? There are so far 4 Excursions offered by X but the prices are pretty high for going to the same beach I want to (even if it includes drinks) and we dont usually go for day pases. The other excursions are out because we are cruising with my MIL. Thanks for any help you can provide!
spammie Posted October 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2017 Hi. Just my thoughts. We were there in May. Tendering was done by the ship's lifeboats. It took about 15 minutes to tender over and was very rough. We also just wanted to go to the same beach. Once we got in the port area there was tables set up with different excursions and one table for taxis. To get to Juanillo Beach in a taxi was $40! We took the tender back to the ship. A lot of people on our cruise had the same experience.
thinfool Posted October 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2017 To get to Juanillo Beach in a taxi was $40! We took the tender back to the ship. Details, details.... One way or round trip? Per person or per taxi? In the Islands we routinely pay $20-25pp for an all day taxi that will take us where we want to go and return us to the ship before sailing. Sandy1975 Posted October 26, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted October 26, 2017 Thanks for the response. This beach is very close, like 5 minutes away by car so $40 seems pricey but not unrealistic if it is for up to 4 people round trip. I think in St Kitts to go to a beach 1/2 hour away it costs $40 round trip with tips so there is a comparison. If taxis are these expensive to go just a couple of miles, I wonder how pricey the facilities at the beach might be. It seems to me that they are taking advantage of cruises stopping there and it can potentially have a negative effect as cruisers may just stay on the ship. Maybe the $109 X wants to charge for a beach escape that includes an "open bar" is not that bad after all? I may just do what you did and check the marina out and go back to the ship where I can have my premium all inclusive experience if the prices are out of hand. And if you take the dxcursion you will be among the first ones to tender off the ship
