keithm Posted November 3, 2017 #53 Share Posted November 3, 2017 OMG.....get a life and let people wear what they want.....your "should've, would've, could've" opinions on CC always border on shaming, blaming, and flaming.....what a bore you must be.....:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: No, not as much a bore as you are! I guess when she looked in the mirror, you're what she saw. Oh the humanity of it all! If you're going to insult me, at least "try" to be clever! Bill B Posted November 4, 2017 #57 Share Posted November 4, 2017 Profit trumps safety. All cruise lines will tell you "Safety is No.1" It's not true... if they could, they'd replace the lifeboats with revenue-generating balcony staterooms. ;)
PrincessLuver Posted November 4, 2017 #58 Share Posted November 4, 2017 If you do a bit of research (Google perhaps), you can find the International Building Code for Stair Treads and Risers. This safety code requires risers to be a maximum height of 7 inches / 178 mm, and treads to be a minimum depth of 11 inches / 279 mm. This code is legally enforced in land-based buildings. But a cruise ship is not a land-based building. So we need to look at something like the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, that developed building guidelines for ships carrying paying passengers. You can Google it at UN ECE/Trans/sc.3/188 The UN ECE mandated that for ships, the maximum height for risers should be 0.18 meters / 7.09 inches, and treads to be a minimum depth of 0.30 meters / 11.81 inches. Pretty close to the international building standards. Now let's look at the staircase steps on a Princess Ship. When the steel steps were built, they were already in violation of the safe minimum standards. Adding carpet and padding has reduced them even further, making them more dangerous. You can measure them yourself on your next cruise. Why would Princess do something like this? Because they can. The Safety guidelines are not enforceable on international cruise ships. Building the staircases below minimum safety standards is less expensive, and leaves more public space for things like shops and art galleries. Profit trumps safety. Thank you for a factual response finally.....so high heels do not injure people....unsafe stairs do....
