RotaryMike Posted November 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2017 News item on NBC tonight, the entire population of Barbuda has been taken to shelters in Antigua, all 1,700 residents ! Has anyone heard of the cruise lines organizing aid to the refugees form Barbuda ? Our Eclipse cruise in January will be spending a day in Antigua, If X would assist in distributing packages, what would people think of bringing an extra bag to leave in Antigua with supplies, clothes, toys etc for the people of Barbuda ? Thanx for any comments, Mike in CT
goingplaces1132 Posted November 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2017 I was on a cruise that people did that for people in Jamaica. What a very kind idea for these countries in ruin due to hurricane. Kudos to you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare mom says Posted November 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2017 Its been more than 2 months. All of the Barbudans have been on Antigua, either in the homes of friends and relatives or in relief centers since the hurricanes struck. They are likely well past the point of needing emergency relief, and according to the Antiguan Prime Minister, are instead in need of rebuilding funds. Instead of hauling stuff that you only think someone might need, why not donate to something like the Red Cross OR UNICEF, where the money can be used where it is most needed. I checked that out on Charity Navigator and they have a 98.23 rating . I've already gotten a thank you email for an online contribution.

NantahalaCruiser Posted November 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2017 When we stopped at Antigua on our Sep 25th Equinox sailing, the Celebrity crew offloaded a vast amount of supplies for the hurricane victims. Although not specifically targeted to Barbuda, Celebrity and RCI, through their holding company RCCI, are both matching contributions for Caribbean hurricane support - the charity they are using is World Vision International.
