Dining: Table for 2?

LadyLuck

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've just checked our online Cruise Personalizer for our dining confirmation. It says that we are confirmed for our requested early traditional dining seating. What about our request for a table for 2? It doesn't say anywhere about our request for a table for 2.

Does Princess offer Table for 2? We haven't been on Princess before. If so, does the CONFIRMED for Dining Status means that we are confirmed for Table for 2?

Please let me know.....seasoned cruisers....

Thanks.

That is something you will have to check on when you board. The 'confirmed' means you are just that for early seating but does not necessairly mean confirmed at a table for two. Try to check at the dining room when you board and see where your table is located, that will let you know immediately if it is a table for two or not.

It may well depend on the ship . some ships have more or less 2-tops. I should think that if you were most insistant a 4-top could be made into two 2-tops for you.

The other 'plus' is that you have requested early seating. Many pax prefer late seating so there always is a big fight after boarding when people are allowed to request changes ... so the fact you WANT first seating is to your advantage. Many people will be trying to switch AWAY from your seating .. so you may end up with a 4-top for just the two of you.

It is very hard to get a reserved seating table for 2, struck out both times we requested it so we just stick with personal choice dining now. Very easy to get a table for 2 personal choice when you dine early (5:30 - 6) or late in the evening.

We've had a table for 2 on our last 2 cruises (both on the Royal Princess). The key is to make your request early. On our last cruise in April we checked on the first day to confirm our dining. We were fine, but found out the cut-off for getting a table for 2 on our sailing was having your request in 12 months prior to the cruise. Remember, the Royal didn't have PC dining, only had one dining room and had a very limited number of tables for 2.

Our next cruise is on the Pacific Princess in September, and so we're playing the waiting game again. ;)

If you really are set on a table for two switch to personal choice. My wife & I had a table for two every night on the Grand in the DaVinci Dining Room. The only time we waited for a table was on the 2nd formal night and the wait was about 10 minutes. We made a reservation on the 1st formal night and walked right in. On the other nights we also walked right in.

DH and I enjoy meeting other passengers at breakfast in the dining room, afternoon tea, and wine tastings, but we prefer to have dinner alone. We arrive at the "anytime" dining room between 6-6:30 and have always been seated immediately at our requested table for two. On two of our four (to date) Princess cruises, we reserved a table or section at the same time each night, but this wasn't really necessary.

If you learn that your confirmed early seating is not the table for two that you requested and such is unavailable, switch to "anytime" dining. When you first enter the dining room, tell the maitre d' what type of accommodation you would like - quiet table for two, etc. - and they will likely lead you to a nice location. You can then reserve this table or section for the duration of the cruise. This way, you can have the best of both worlds: Dining when, where, and with whom you please and having a waitstaff who get to know you and your preferences.

Bon Voyage!

Chris

On the Island Princess in Personal Choice Dining you could request a table for 2, but the tables were placed so close together, it was just a matter of inches between them that you couldn't have any private talk. You might as well have been sitting at a table for 4.:p

We found on the Island that the traditional dining tables for two were just about 8 inches apart, and we switched to Personal Choice. In Personal Choice SOME of the tables were just 8 inches apart, but some were against a wall, and quite nice. We had fun switching around, from tables for 8, to a table for two RIGHT next to another, and having our personal space at one of the tables against a wall...............we met interesting people, and yet, enjoyed time alone. Of course, a few nights, we chose to eat in the Horizon Court (same food as the dining room, some in different form), and there was never any problem in getting a table for two there............... :)

What ship are you on, Lady Luck.............perhaps someone could give you more specific information for your ship.

Have a great cruise!

On Diamond Princess Anytime its easier to get a table for two than a shared table. We far prefer to chat to other passengers over dinner and often make up our own table with people we meet on the cruise.

There are four "Anytime" restaurants on Diamond with no extra charge and two with a small fee.

If you are on honeymoon, then by all means have a table for two.

For the rest of us there are plenty of chances to eat "A deux" at home.

On our last Princess cruise, I requested a table for 3, early seating. I was concerned we would end up at a large table because of the odd number, but we had a great table for 4 with only the 3 of us. It was nice to have a little extra room and we enjoyed dinner by ourselves. Breakfast and lunch we sat with others to mingle and make new friends.
