SWANOZ Posted January 31, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2018 Easiest way to get from cruise port to Rialto Bridge for 8.45am tour start. If using water bus which line? Thanks Jennifer:)
euro cruiser Posted January 31, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2018 Easiest would be a private water taxi but it would also be very expensive. By public transit it would be the People Mover to Piazzale Roma, then either the #1 or #2 vaporetto. http://actv.avmspa.it/sites/default/files/web_mappa%20linee%20di%20navigazione_aprile_2017_A4_venezia_official_APP.pdf
Rare Hlitner Posted January 31, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2018 So what to do. Take the People Mover from the port over to the Piazale Roma..giving yourself plenty of extra time. If you like to walk, it takes a fast walker about 20 min to walk from P. Roma to the Rialto Bridge. If you want to use the vaporetto, you can take either the #1 or #2...but make sure you are heading the correct direction (the signs do tell you which way). You want to be heading towards your right...as you face the Grand Canal. The vaporetto will take you less then 15 min (the #2 is faster...but runs less frequently). In your situation we would probably want to be at the People Mover station (in the port) by 7:30 or earlier. If all goes really well we would be at the Rialto Br by around 8:15. This gives you an extra half hour safety margin. If you get to that area early, there are shops and plenty of places to grab a cup of java. As to starting a tour, make sure you have very specific instructions on where to meet. Its a busy area spanning both sides of the canal. I should add that DW and I love to walk in Venice so, in your situation, we would walk from the P. Roma. But we do understand that not everyone can or likes to walk. Rare Hlitner Posted February 1, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2018 Of course, that assumes you don't make a wrong turn while walking -- which is all too easy to do in Venice. :D So true. But there are some pretty decent signs pointing the way to Rialto Bridge...but one has to learn to look high up on buildings (usually near corners. For those of us with working smartphones it does become a lot easier to stay on course. And some of us still remember how to use a map :). Most folks do prefer to make frequent use of the vaporettos. Speaking of vaporettos, even cruise ship visitors should consider purchasing a day or multi day vaporetto pass (they are sold for 24, 48 and 72 hours ....etc). If you use the vaporettos about 3 times a day those passes make sense. Hank
