altheimeer Posted February 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2018 We're sailing the Allure later this year -- 4 of us, including 2 teens. I'd like to be able to text among each other. Can this be done through the Royal app, or do we need all 4 of us to get the Voom? We sailed on Carnival last year, and (although it was a bit spotty) we were able to keep in touch through their app. Thanks for any help!
Clarea Posted February 2, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2018 The Royal App does not currently support texting, and RC has not publicly announced any ETA for texting capability. Your choices would be buying VOOM for all devices, or paying your cell carrier $0.50 per text.
Biker19 Posted February 2, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2018 And, no, the Royal IQ app (which does have texting capability) is not available on Allure.
altheimeer Posted February 2, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 2, 2018 Thanks! So this blog is wrong? https://www.******************.com/2017/11/17/6-cool-features-coming-royal-caribbeans-new-smartphone-app I read that, but it seems to be the only thing out there talking about texting with the Royal app, and the blogger (in the comments) says that Allure is supposed to have that feature by this time. Is the blog an arm of RCL, or just someone saying what he/she hears? Thanks for all your help.
Biker19 Posted February 2, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2018 ^ As you may have noticed, that blog is blocked on CC.

HallOfPromise Posted February 2, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2018 There was big talk about the app when it was announced. However, RCCL is slowly releasing the app only supporting one ship at a time with only a fraction of the features announced. It's only available on a few Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships. No word on when a messaging feature will be added, only that more features are on the way. Even though it's not a beta, it seems like it's still in beta form. Biker19 Posted February 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2018 ^ Different app - but exact look and feel - two ships on it so far.
HallOfPromise Posted February 2, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2018 ^ Different app - but exact look and feel - two ships on it so far. Exactly this. They are two separate apps under two different names, but are the same app experience.
