Hawaii March

Going on Pride of America 10th March. Are there private tour operators in the ports, should we stick to ship tours or can we do most sightseeing on our own

At least in relation to Maui, there are many private tours, but you would be best to reserve them in advance of your arrival as they can sell out.

Ships tours are far too expensive, and the same tours can often be found from private vendors by researching them in advance.

Renting your own car is the best way to see all the islands as you wish and at your own pace, and it isn't that expensive either.

Renting a car is very easy as many companies will pick up at the port and drop you off upon your completion. If booked far enough in advance you should be able to get a car and gas for less than $50.

We found this tri park pass to be exceptional value as national parks have Ranger presentations.

The pass is now $30 but it covers all passengers in the cardholders car. Volcano national park in Hilo, Haleakalā crater in Maui, and the heritage park in Kona are covered.

You and your family can visit all 3 places for the price of 2 excursions to volcano national park.

This site was recommended by many on the Hawaii board and I used them to book through Dollar as I have Express privileges there.
