Adhoc Onboard Tipping On European Cruises

Those of you who have sailed in Europe and have tipped any cash for room service etc, have you done so in Euros or Dollars? I’m sure they would be grateful for either, but just wondered as obviously ship is geared for$$$ but ports (if staff hop off) will be €€€.

We have tipped both currencies but mostly in US dollars and the staff was very appreciative.

I’ve seen crew shopping in port with pretty much any currency you can think of in hand.
