Does anyone know the process of collecting

duty free liquor purchased at a duty free shop in Europe if you plane trip home requires a change of planes in the U.S. As example - purchased at Dublin Airport and change planes in Charlotte, NC. How do we collect it at final destination. Thanks.

Purchasing liquor in Europe you will just take it from the shop. The past few times they asked us if we were connecting in the US and I heard them telling people who were connecting they may lose it. That said you will have to get your bags and recheck them once in the US since you will need to go through customs. Thus just plan to put it in your suitcase before you recheck it.

You have to go thru immigration and customs at your first airport in the US. You will have to put the booze in your checked bag before you check it in for your continuing flight. If it's in your carry on, it will be confiscated.

When we did a connection where we had to collect bags and recheck a guy in the luggage hall told us to put them into our checked luggage as were we’re going through another security check. Although the duty free shop sealed it and said it would not be a problem, it was and luckily the guy sorting the baggage carousel told me.
