LDVinNC Posted February 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Our September cruise arrival shows as Manhattan or Brooklyn. How far in advance will we know where the ship will dock? We will be flying home out of Newark and need to decide how early we can book a flight. Thanks.
Micahs Grandad Posted February 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Always wondered why it took so long to pick a site for disembarkation
fishywood Posted February 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2018 The only time it could ever not be Brooklyn (other than when Red Hook was closed after superstorm Sandy) is when there are more than one Princess or Cunard ships scheduled for NYC turnaround the same day. And the last few times it happened it was the QM2 rather than the Princess ship that was assigned to Manhattan. That said an anomaly did occur a few years ago when Caribbean Princess had to dock at the RCI terminal in Cape Liberty NJ. But notice was provided pretty far in advance. And Princess' flight guidelines for NYC make no reference to which pier the ship disembarks at. Also note that no matter how early the ship is alongside, the times remain the same based on when the ship is cleared to actually start disembarkation and how long it takes to get through baggage claims and passport control (hint: much longer than at other US ports--especially for the first call of the season after the Transatlantic): Disembarking Passengers For voyages arriving in New York City at 5:00 and/or 7:15 am, the earliest flight departures are as follows: LaGuardia: 1:15 pm for international flights, 12:15 pm for domestic flights John F. Kennedy: 2:15 pm for international flights, 1:15 pm for domestic flights Newark: 2:15 pm for international flights, 1:15 pm for domestic flights
LDVinNC Posted February 23, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 23, 2018 Thank you. Looks like a mid-afternoon flight is what we will book.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2018 Better to be on the safe side. I think the times mentioned look fine. Keith
