Excursion cancelled before the cruise

Has anyone had an excursion cancelled, several weeks before the cruise? We just got an e-mail from our T/A, saying that the excursion for our sailing on the Liberty, while in Costa Maya, was cancelled for "operational reasons."

The problem is that the excursion was to the closest Mayan ruins, with an hour on the bus each way. The other excursions are for bus rides of 2 to 2.5 hours each way.

Costa Maya also has Toucan Tours (we booked through Shore Excursioneer). Meets at the pyramid outside the port gate. Takes about 45 minutes to get to Chachoben, and is a really neat place to visit.

While we saw big buses on the road going the other way, our guide told us that the cruise lines had cancelled the tour operator after the accident. We had four guests in an 11 passenger van. Guide insisted we use seatbelts. Apparently people in bus didn't have them or were not using them.
